    SSD not recognized by BIOS

I was browsing the internet and suddenly I got a blue screen from Windows then the laptop didn’t want to boot anymore. I entered the Bios and realized the SSD was not showing up.

-I tried the “Load optimized defaults” but without success.
-I checked the Bios version and it is updated.
-The boot mode is ‘UEFI’ but still doesn’t show the SSD from the boot order.
-I disabled/enabled the VMD controller but no effect.
-I didn’t make any changes to bios/overclocking or anything like that, just defaulted out of the box.

Can you please help me out?

    Laptop details:
    MSI Stealth 17 Studio A13VH
    Windows 11 64x

G’day and welcome to the forum.

Looks like the laptop is still under warranty, is that right?
If so, there’s that option to consider.

Sounds like the SSD may have died, any chance you can remove it from the laptop and connect it to either an external drive enclosure and connect that to another PC, or install it directly inside another PC?
If working on your laptop, check the warranty first as removing the drive may void that.

Hi, thank you for your reply, yes the laptop is under warranty but I know it would take a long time to be fixed if is damaged. I can’t test the SSD, if I open the back panel will void the warranty.

That’s why I’m asking here maybe there is just some setting in bios that I can do…
I had a few times that I could see it in the bios but when I want to reinstall the Win11 it disappears when I wanna create a partition. (I don’t think is dead)

If you don’t won’t to go down the path of removing the SSD yourself, your next option may be to create a Linux distro, like Mint or Puppy, on to a USB stick and boot from that.

Then try to access the SSD.

But your options are limited, if BIOS can’t find the drive, then there is a good chance the drive has issues and needs replacing. Either way, to recover data off the drive, or to replace the drive, you’re going to have to get access to the drive.

Then of course, you can always just throw up you hands and accept the warranty path may be the best way forward, even if the most painful!

I would suggest that you use Linux Ubuntu, so you do not have to make changes to the BIOS as far as Secure and Legacy boot which can then play havoc with windows.

Ubuntu is an open source software operating system that runs from the desktop, to the cloud, to all your internet connected things.

Since the system is still under warranty then contact them to start the Warranty process as Bruce has stated.

Could also be that the drive cable has come loose and reseating it will correct that. Like you stated that would void the warranty

Yeah, I will send it to warranty, is only 1 month old… which was odd for me and I’m not so worried about the data, was relatively empty.

            Thanks guys for your feedback.
