"Choppy, intermittent" gameplay.

Hello. With my Lenovo laptop, I am having “choppy, intermittent” gameplay issues. The game is GTA 5. My laptop is more than capable of running GTA 5.

I noticed the issue when I installed the latest Windows 10 update a couple of weeks ago. I have made sure that the Nvidia graphics driver is up to date.

Within the settings of the game, I am relatively certain that I have everything turned down that would make a difference as far as the graphics are concerned.

I am not sure what to do from here? Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

I just tried to lower the resolution to no avail. And, the word I should have used in my original post is LAG. Not choppy or intermittent.

Sorry but you have post on a tech forum asking for help but have provided zero information about your computer or it`s hardware, this makes it impossible for anyone to even hazard a guess as to what is going on.

Is the computer a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if a brand name provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the following:

OS
CPU
Motherboard
RAM (including the amount and Number of Sticks)
Add on Video Card if one is used.
Power Supply Unit

Providing these details will enable folk to better help you.

So other can assist let get a speccy report.

Do these in the order listed. Then try and launch your game.

Disable windows updates prior to gaming.
Use this tool in extreme mode.
Use Defender control to disable defender.
Use Kill Em All – This will close all non windows programs and running processes non essential to your computer. Note: This will close your browser, so save anything if needed prior to running.

After the 4 clicks have been accomplished, launch your game now and see how it goes.

Also there is this tool, which can increase performance.

IF You connect via wireless so you will need to enter the following commands in command prompt.
So you will need to enter these commands in Elevated Command prompt after running Easy Service Optimizer, if you so choose to run it.
Copy and paste each command one at a time and hit enter after.

       sc start WlanSvc

       sc config WlanSvc start= auto

Also, uninstall avast antivirus, you can install these programs back again at a later time if you want. This is just to see if they are causing the issue at hand.

I’m not sure if I mentioned this in my original posts? I’m not playing GTA 5 online. I am playing the story mode solo. I am hesitant to attempt the steps you listed above. The problem is, if I can’t re-install the ethernet driver I will be dealing with a problem that I won’t be able to fix. I will make sure I know what I am doing before attempting that step.

Avast is closed when playing. The Speccy report is at the top of page #7. Yes, the laptop is plugged in when playing.

The problems were getting so bad, that when using the pc for non-gaming purposes, those functions would “lag” too. I finally gave in to the inevitable and installed Windows 11. After numerous updates, driver installs, and 6+ hours with various, free, tech support (mainly Microsoft chat), I finally solved this problem for the most part.
