Need help installing SSD on laptop

    Hello,

I own n HP Pavillion Gaming Laptop 15-cx0xxx and I have been frustrated by its slow speed in booting up games and applications. For example, Crusader Kings 3 takes more than 20 minutes for it to boot up.

Due to this, I wish to upgrade to SSD. From what I have gathered, my laptop has two storage devices. I have a 1 terabyte HDD (hgst hts721010a9e630) and a 16 gigabyte SSD in PCIe M.2 style (intel mempek1j016gah) which is currently empty.

I would like to switch out the 16 gigabyte SSD with a 1 terabyte SSD that I plan on purchasing on Amazon as I would still like the 1 Terrabyte HDD to store photos and documents. I would also like to have Windows run off the new SSD to help my computer boot up faster.

So basically what I would like to know is if my plan is solid and also how would I install Windows on the SSD when I already have it on the HDD?

Any Help would be much appreciated.

    Let’s get some more information:

Download and run the free version of speccy.

Once you have ran speccy, follow the instructions to upload a snapshot found here.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:
    [ol]
[li]In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.[/li][li]In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.[/li][li]Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot dialog box. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.[/li][/ol]

Please list your power supply unit if it’s a desktop (manufacturer and model).

Most likely if you go in the BIOS, you will see SATA access mode as RST Premium with Optane System Acceleration.

That means your system is configured as RAID.

In your case the 16GB SSD is used as the part that holds the boot files.

What is FAR MORE IMPORTANT is that if you remove this drive you will never be able to re-create this RAID configuration again, as such option is NOT available in the BIOS.

        You have been warned.
Your best option is to recover the system to factory default settings, erase all user data (and the files you have added that are slowing the system down).
