hp elitebook 840 g6 not charging and turning on

Hi, I have a problem with my laptop not charging or turning on. I’ve tried many things to get it started but nothing works. I’ve removed the batter, took it all apart and put it back together, held down the power button many many times, and so on. I’ve done a lot of research and can’t find anything in how to fix my specific model. The warranty on it is also expired. If anyone is able to help find a way to fix it without it costing a whole motherboard, I would be grateful.

Did this first happen right out of the blue or did you have problems before this.

Is there any sign of life at all, any LEDs blinking etc, this includes on the AC adaptor/charger.

Does the AC adaptor/charger feel warm to the touch if you leave it connected to the notebook and power outlet.

It happened right out of the blue. The chargers do work, and the laptop went form charging without turning on to not charging or turning on at all.

1# there are no signs of life, i described how it used to show that it was charging but then stopped Altogether.

2# the ac adapter does feel slightly warm.

No signs of life from the notebook as in no LEDs blinking but the charger being warm suggests that the MB has failed, the power circuit that includes the battery charging function is most likely and caused by a loose or shorted out DC jack port.

I thought that was the case too, but I had no way to confirm. I did use a thermal camera to detect that some chips are getting warm on the board though, only when plugged in. The CPU isn’t warm at all.

Not seen that done before but good call.

The CPU not getting warm while some chips on the MB are is a bit strange as MBs are more prone to failure than a CPU is.

I’m sorry, but what you mean by MBs?

                    He means Motherboards…

BTW: Have you tried starting the system WITHOUT the battery connected?

We are planning on getting it to a repair shop, but if there is anything I can do to fix it before I have to pay big please tell me.

Your heat test as good as confirms that the issue is terminal and the only test left would be to try a known good CPU.

I suspect that you may find that it will not be a cost effective repair if it is the board and with labour costs included even for them to replace the CPU.

The cpu cannot be removed without a heat gun since it directly soldered on there. But I do get your point, it maybe the CPU and to replace it might cost the entire motherboard. I don’t have any experience in heat gun soldering, only regular old pencil soldering.

You seem to know your way around the notebook so why not swap out the MB yourself if it is confirmed to be bad.

Just a thought, any change in the behaviour if you remove the RAM from the slot/s and then press the power on button while hooked up to the AC adapter.
