I have a Lenovo Yoga 720-15ikb that doesnβt like to turn on for more than two seconds. Sometimes I have to disconnect the battery and then it will boot, sometimes I have to disconnect the battery, try booting, and reconnect the battery for it to boot. Sometimes it just wonβt turn on at all. There is no real consistency to it. the Windows 10 battery tester showed that the battery was good, it is running off the battery as of this post. I have downloaded BIOS updates from Lenovo and they have not helped. I got this laptop secondhand (it wouldnβt work for the last owner). This laptop has been wiped multiple times.

No longer under warranty, and no it does not relaibly boot without the battery.Originally posted by Bruceany chance itβs under warranty still, even extended warranty?
does it reliably boot if the battery is always left out?
Iβm figuring BIOS but I just downloaded the newest ones from Lenovo and it still did it.Comment

for me, the issue doesnβt sound BIOS related, more hardware related.
could be anything from the power pack itself, to the jack it plugs into, to the power circuit board in the laptop the jack connects to.
or it could be more fundamental - the motherboard.
does the battery charge when installed and mains power connected?
hope you got it for a real good price? :unsure:Comment

Yes, the battery charges when the power cord is plugged in. When I push the power button (when it doesnβt turn on) the power button wll light up for about twenty seconds (even though the rest of the computer is completely off, fans and everything) unless I press any key on the keyboard which will turns off the power light regardless of how long itβs been on.Originally posted by Brucefor me, the issue doesnβt sound BIOS related, more hardware related.

sounds like a fault that is outside the normal βhave you tried turning it off and on againβ options available to mere mortals.
Iβd be thinking itβs time to take it to your nearest authorised Lenovo repair centre and get it looked at professionally.
be prepared for them to most likely say βitβs the motherboardβ or the the repair to be on par with the cost of a new unit.
in other words, unless you get lucky with a fix, this is most likely the death knell for the laptop.
so, nothing to loose, open up the back cover and see if anything stands out. but that in itself is a Catch-22 when you donβt know what to look for.Comment

My apologies for not getting back to you until now. The laptop in question started (as of yesterday) to automatically shut off within a minute of booting, I believe that it is a bad capacitor somewhere on the mobo and will possibly be having it repaired by a guy I know or being taught how to do it by the same guy. Thanks for your help.Originally posted by Bruce@Kill Shot - any update?Comment
