Dual Monitors - Not Working - HELP

COLOR=rgb(184, 49, 47) monitor has DVI and VGA

B monitor has VGA

laptop has ONE HDMI port

** need to use only the two external monitors w/ laptop closed and extend the display **

These are the adapters I am using that are not working how I want :

Amazon.com (hdmi splitter)

Amazon.com (hdmi to vga adapter)

Robot or human? (dvi to hdmi adapter)

I am at my wits end with this issue and need help !

I am attempting to connect 2 monitors to my laptop and extend the display. I keep my laptop closed and do not use the laptop display and prefer to only use the two external monitors as dual and extend the display, not mirror.

One monitor is VGA and one monitor is DVI. I do not have either port on my laptop. My laptop has one HDMI port. Just realized my laptop has a thunderbolt port (still no clue what they are for).

I have successfully connected one monitor to use an external display by using a HDMI to VGA adapter, no issues.

By researching, I thought I could use the DVI monitor with a DVI to HDMI adapter and a HDMI splitter in order to have a second monitor and extend the display. Have not had success and need help.

If I connect both HDMI cables from the monitors to the splitter (that is connected to my laptop) - both displays read “NO SIGNAL”. I can connect the dvi adapter to the splitter and it displays the monitor but if I connect the VGA monitor - I get “NO SIGNAL”. I can connect the VGA monitor adapter to the splitter in ONE of the ports and it displays but if I connect it in the other port - “NO SIGNAL”.

PLEASE HELP - how can I display BOTH external monitors to EXTEND my display while keeping my laptop closed ???

g’day and welcome to the forums.

I would be using something like this; Startech Dual Monitor USB 3.0 Docking Station - HDMI / DVI / VGA - Umart.com.au

your laptop’s HDMI cable goes into the back of the station, as does the VGA monitor and the DVI monitor.
don’t know your monitor specs, so check the max resolution capacity of the docking station and your screens.
I note that model also says “HDMI (and either DVI-D or VGA if dual display is desired) enabled display device(s)” - so that sounds ominous!

I have certainly used docking stations in the past that run 2 screens(not mirrored), with the lid closed.
but one of the screens wasn’t VGA, so you have that against you.
not many docking stations still support VGA.
you may have to update one of your screens! (y)

Without a docking station you can’t really get this to work.
The splitter will mirror the image to both monitors.

You have not told us the make/model and serial number of your laptop.
This means we cannot look up the specs. Not all laptops can do more than 1 extra screen.
