    Can’t access bios

    Hi,
My asus laptop on booting shows: S.M.A.R.T Status is bad and that I should replace device. I can’t get past this message. Ideally, I would like to change boot order to boot into a portable Linux flash drive so I can access files on this windows machine and back them up. I have tried all function keys and esc and delete to access bios but nothing works. Is there any way to recover my data? Thank you

You have post on a tech assistance forum asking for help but have provided zero information about your computer or it`s hardware, this makes it impossible for anyone to even hazard a guess as to what is going on.

Please provide information about your computer, is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if a brand name, provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the original and any replacement CPU, MB, the RAM (including the amount) add on video card if one is used and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable folk to better assist you.

The model is A516JA asus. The exact message I get is “smart test warning” intel hbrpeknx0202a smart Status is bad. Please backup and replace the device. Press any key to continue to boot…”. I will send this laptop in to Replce the Ssd as it is under warranty. My question is whether there is anything I can do to access my data before sending the laptop off?

Pressing any key or function keys or del or esc keys does nothing

Do you have the windows install media for that system?

see if this help at all MyASUS in UEFI BIOS - Introduction

Press the [ESC] or [F2] key on the keyboard at boot time and the following screen will appear. Press the arrow keys on your keyboard, select [Enter Setup], and press Enter on your keyboard to enter MyASUS in UEFI BIOS.

Hi, the laptop came with windows 10 preinstalled with install media.

I have tried esc and f2 (both holding them down and tapping them them fast during boot) but nothing happens.

May need to create the media which may allow you to boot then access the UEFI through there.

                https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

Is this actually an SSD or a M.2 drive?

There used to be a way to interrupt the boot process three or four times to have the system access the repair/ troubleshoot then from there you should be able to get into the UEFI.

Thank you, I will try what you have suggested when I can access another computer to create the media.

It was advertised as ssd and it’s an entry level laptop so I don’t think m.2 drive

The only other way would be to remove the drive and attach via USB to SATA converted to another system. Unfortunately, that WILL void out the system warranty.

There is nothing else on the screen to press this for setup or anything.

Press this to Resume or Setup?
