I’ve never used Linux so cannot comment.
If the problem is the RAM then are the sticks correct for the make & model of the pc?

        Not linux either
Does this happen with the power supply plugged in.
Can you remove the battery and run with just the power supply plugged in?

3rd with no experience in that distribution of Linux.

I had a semi-similar issue that was cleared up by reinstalling my OS and unplugging my computer from the surge protector I was using at the time.

If the issue follows you across different distributions, I’d guess a hardware/driver issue.

Are you plugged straight into the wall power socket
Do you only have keyboard and mouse connected

                          It’s a laptop not a desktop.

That was instructions for linux not windows
I am now out of ideas
The only way you can proof if it is hardware is to load windows and see what happens

Can you post the complete hardware make and models?

Could also be that they second port as you can tell may have gone out and causing other issues depending upon the reason for the failure.

Have you tried any of the Linux forums?

Could be caused by an update.

                                Corrupt software.

                                HDD failure

Happen more on battery than mains?

                                Battery in or out?

                                BIOS may be misconfigured

What version release and desktop environment?

Does it do this on just the one user or all user accounts?

                                Which install did you preform?
