I bought a new charger for my 10 years old laptop where I can choose the voltage. When I connected the respective charger to the laptop I involuntarily changed the voltage from 15V to 24V and my laptop went black. It doesnβt start when I press the power button. My question is: is the battery affected or I just fried my motherboard?
Did I just fried my motherboard?

Most likely the MB as the DC and charging circuit precede the battery.
Easiest way to confirm it is to remove the battery, set the correct voltage on the charger and see if that makes any difference when connected to the notebook on it`s own. -
as stated, could easily be the motherboard, but it all depends on your make/model of laptop.
some have the power jack soldered right onto the mobo, others have a separate circuit board just for the power and if you are lucky, may only need to replace that.
but yeah, you fried something, and now are faced with the decision of whether the old girl is worth it and how easily parts can be found.Comment
