Help me get rid of this!

    Hi

I downloaded an mp3 converter to download music from youtube to a sony mp3 walkman, and now I have constant pop ups saying to run a scan (mcaffee) because I have a virus, or some offers about everything. I used my Avira free version to scan but didn’t find anything and there are no programs installed that I can uninstall, so I don’t know how to get rid of it and it’s very annoying and slowing my pc, can ou help me get rid of it? Also, what mp3 converter is safe? Thanks.

    Hello

Did the download have an option not to install Mcaffee? You could just un-install it and try again but look for the Mcaffee option.

It wasn’t actually a download, I just searched and clicked on the first result, which was: https://www.bestmp3converter.com/ , then it went directly to the page to convert to mp3, and then the problem started. There is nothing that I can uninstall, and the constant popups are from different thigs, MacAfee, Norton, or apparently from Microsoft edge, but I think it is not really from that.

Can you supply a screenshot of the pop up?
It seems you download the converted file which could contain malware - what is the file size of the .mp3 file?
Upload the converted file to Virustotal: VirusTotal to see if it is infected.

I suspect the browser may be infected, you should backup your favourites then close Edge/other browser, either by clicking on the X, by ctrl, alt del & then open task manager & find Edge/other browser entry & click on this & choose end task.
Then open Edge/other browser & it will offer to start afresh, you can then clean the browser’s cache, cookies & history.
If this isn’t enough you can reset Edge by Right-click on the Start button in the lower-left corner and select “Apps and Features “.
Scroll through the list until you find “Microsoft Edge”, click it, and then click on the “Advanced options” link.
Next, click on the “Reset” button.
For other browsers then they also may have a reset feature, if not then you can uninstall & reinstall the browser.

That worked! Thank you very much.
