Cable or Backlight problem?

    Cable or Backlight problem?

    Hello,

    So I recently found an old laptop of mine, tried to boot it and it looked ok for me, it had 1 problem where black appears as green on the screen, so I decided to open it and check the 40pin cable behind the display, it looked out of place so I got it out, wiped it with my finger to get any dust out and put it back in, and low and behold it worked! The display was ok until the next day where it began turning off an on randomly and flashing from time to time, the issue got worse until the point where it takes around 2 hours for the display to turn on after the laptop boots (I borrowed an external monitor to use the laptop in the mean time), but if I shine a flash light at the screen there is still picture, just no backlight.

    I wanted to know if the issue is the with backlight or with the cable because I think I may have shorted it out while wiping it with my finger.

    Btw I am using a charger with inter-changable inputs if that makes any difference (not original)

    Laptop info: hp pavilion G7 (2012) , windows 10 , 17 inch display

    if you still see the picture (albeit massively dimmed) and the screen is on, then it’s the backlight in my experience.
    also confirmed by the external monitor having no issues.
    The display turning on and off randomly is what made me suspect the cable, so I guess I have to buy a new LCD then or maybe invest in a new low-end laptop for that same price.

      I doubt getting that old laptops screen repaired would be justifiable.
      so yeah, either forget the ol’ gal altogether, or get an external screen for it. (y)
