Intel Rapid Storage Technology crashing my laptop

    Greetings,

I have a MSI GF65 Thin 10UE gaming laptop that has been freezing very often these days.

The problem: The laptop completely freezes and takes in no input. The only short-term fix is to force shut-down the laptop. Sometimes there is a BSOD, but 90% there isn’t one.

The cause: according to the Event Viewer, the issue is caused by this:

The RstMwService service terminated with the following error:
    %%2684420176

    Troubleshooting Attempted
    1. Reset PC
I Reset the PC two times, once keeping the files, and once deleting everything. This did not fix the issue as the laptop continues to crash
    2. Upgrade to Windows 11
Self-explanatory, unfortunately, this didn’t do the trick
    3. Install/Update Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers
Once I run the installer, i get an error saying that this platform is not supported for this driver.
    4. Reset/Start RstMwService through Services
I can see RstMwService in my Task Manager and its description is “Intel Storage Middleware Service”. However, I can not find RstMwService in the Services application, but I can see Intel Storage Middleware Services. Using both apps, Task Manager or Services, I can’t start the service. I will click start, but the status stays at “Stopped”. The service settings are also set to Automatic in the Services application.
    5. Uninstall Intel Rapid Storage Technology
I can’t find Intel Rapid Storage Technology under Control Panel>Uninstall a program
    6. SFC SCANNOW
      All results came back normal
    7. Memory Diagnostic Tool
      All results came back normal
    8. Contact Intel/Microsoft/MSI
Microsoft gave a pretty generic reply with troubleshooting guides which I tried and didn’t help
MSI recommended I visit the nearest MSI service center in Malaysia. (I bought the laptop in Singapore, but moved to Malaysia for studies. So I am not sure if the warranty is still applicable)
    9. Reinstall Disk Driver
Uninstalled my SSD’s driver under Device manager and restarted the laptop, issue still persists.

From what I understand, my laptop doesn’t have Intel Rapid Storage Technology installed, only its services. Even the services aren’t the same as what the Intel troubleshooting guide says. Yet, the service continues to crash my laptop.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I need this laptop for my studies.
    Thank you,
    Meekal

get Speccy from here; Speccy - Download Builds
in Speccy, click File > Publish Snapshot > Copy to Clipboard > Close.
now you can paste (Ctrl+V) that link into a post.

One component Speccy doesn’t cover is the Power Supply Unit, so please also include the make/model of the PSU.

when you upgraded to Win11, was that a fresh install or an over-the-top install?
