Dell Laptop Trackpad/Trackpoint Inop

Hi all, haven’t checked in here in awhile. Glad to see everything is going well!

I have a Dell Precision M4800 running Windows 10. The built in keyboard works fine, but the trackpoint on the keyboard, the touchpad, and touchpad buttons on the palm rest do not work. I have to use an external USB mouse. Device manager shows a Code 24 for the Dell Touchpad driver, and I have already tried reinstalling the touchpad driver. The touchpad and trackpoint also don’t work in the BIOS setup, which leads me to believe it’s a hardware issue. I almost bought a new palmrest/touchpad assembly but if the trackpoint on the keyboard which uses a separate connector also doesn’t work, it must be a motherboard issue, right? Thanks in advance.

Where did you get the driver from ? Did you also check in device manager that the driver is the one you downloaded.
Did you only plug in the mouse after this happened.

Driver is from the official Dell support section for my specific Dell service tag and OS. I tried the ePSA thing and it seemed to test every device except for the mouse. And like when in BIOS setup, the trackpad/trackpoint didn’t work in the ePSA thing. I checked the “events” section for the touchpad in Dev Mgr and it did show the install events, it also showed from when I previously attempted on the 28th so I guess I haven’t technically completely uninstalled and reinstalled it yet. The fact that the Dell Touchpad shows up under device manager leads me to believe that the system detects its existence, but the driver is wrong or something. But then I still don’t understand how a supposedly nonfunctioning driver in the OS even matters if the trackpad doesn’t work in BIOS or something like ePSA. So then i suspect it only shows up in Dev Mgr because I attempted to install drivers for it. it won’t let me attach the pics of the ePSA results but it says all tests passed and it doesn’t have a section at all for the mouse in the configuration tab where it lists if things like the keyboard are installed or not.

make a ubuntu bootable usb or dvd

Create a bootable USB stick with Rufus on Windows | Ubuntu NO install needed

Does this get it working.
