HP Elitebook 840 G3 not seeing battery.

My laptop has stopped seeing the CS03XL battery.

Windows says battery status: 0% available (plugged in)

HP Support Assistant states that it can’t find a battery.

I have tried removing the battery and then refitting it and that made no difference so I bought a new battery and that did not work either. Tried a third CS03XL battery and still windows and HP Support does not see the battery.

I have Googled it and tried all things like deleting battery drivers, hard laptop reset/reboot etc, nothing has worked.

Laptop only works now on mains ac power and does not charge the battery no matter what one I put in the laptop. If I pull out the power cable, the laptop turns instantly off as you would expect.

Does anyone have any ideas, really want to be able to get the laptop working on battery again.

    Thanks.

Did the previous battery all of a sudden stop working?

Did the previous battery work, not work, work and then not work?

From the sounds of it there is a motherboard failure, loose wire, and or broken wire.

That is an OEM battery not second hand should work with the system?

Previous battery was working fine, it is OEM.
I fix computers as a side job. I was working on another 840 G3 that was not starting. I swapped the batteries to see if my working battery would start the clients G3, it didn’t. The clients battery, also OEM, did not start my G3. I swapped the batteries back.
My battery continued to work fine until the charge ran out which took a while as I am usually on ac mains power and don’t really notice the battery status. I assume the battery was not charging and one evening I unplugged the ac thinking it would continue to run fine on battery and the laptop instantly powered off.
It was then that I found out that windows just reported 0% and HP support assistant didn’t see the battery at all.

Have you tried the powercfg /batteryreport command?
Just open a command prompt window and type it, then press enter.

The report will be saved in C:\Windows\System32 as battery-report.

Thanks for that. I ran the command and got this… Problem is, there is no battery currently in the laptop, I took it out.

            @georgeks to follow up

The other system may have fried the battery.

Yes maybe but as I said I tried several other batteries to no effect.

There is still a battery so the system will always find it : The CMOS.

However, if you go to the HP site here and enter your Notebook S/N, you can get to the product home page and find the Maintenance and Service Guide.

Maybe there is a component between the motherboard and the main battery that has been damaged and can be replaced.
