    Low FPS

    I have a dell g5 with core i5, nvidia GTX 1060.
    Whenever I play games , the FPS suddenly drops from 120 to 20 for like 4 seconds and comes back to normal. This keeps happening at intervals. It’s really annoying , please help.

      I have tried everything in the book. Reinstall windows , drivers, etc

        Lets get the complete system information.

        Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

        [COLOR=rgb(243, 121, 52)]If this is a desktop include the make and model of the Power Supply Unit

        To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

        In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

        In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

        Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.[/COLOR]

            Others may have more things to try.

            Can you connect via cable to the modem and see if they same things happens?
            Have you tried changing the server that you are connecting to for the games?
            Have you reset the network?
            Lower the setting in the game?
            Turn off V-Sync?

              The internet is fine, this problem is happening in both online and offline games. Yes i have kept the game graphics to the lowest settings and
              it still happens. V-sync is off too.

                Active power scheme: Dell

                Lets try changing the power scheme to Balanced test it out if no good try High.

                You can also try a clean boot to see if that makes any difference.



                The other issue I see is.
                RAM: 16.0GB Single-Channel Unknown @ 1329MHz (19-19-19-43)

                You only having the one stick means that can only work in single channel which is 50% of the performance that it is capable of when paired with a matching stick.

                You need to look at freeing up some space

                Windows requires an average of 32 GB free space and 7-10 GB reserved for patches and updates. The less space you have the harder the system has to work and files will become corrupt.

                  for it to happen at repeating intervals would suggest background tasks, like something trying to phone home, housekeeping, maintenance, updates etc.

                  going through the Speccy report, these things would be my first suggestions:- remove the Dell bloatware programs leftover from initial delivery, remove McAfee and just use the inbuilt Defender for a while, turn off all those scheduled tasks, remove BitTorrent and see if that helps, and low free space of C:\ (but I see Rusty is already on that one!).

                      I bought a laptop stand , and started using it with proper ventilation, I have only encountered the FPS drop like twice now. Is it because the the laptop is throttling ?

                            i used to have 2 8gb rams, but a couple months ago i dropped my laptop and one of the ram slots was damaged. i took the easy way out and bought a single channel 16gb ram.
                            anywasy here is the latest speccy report.

                            yea i attempted, i didnt find any problems.

                              with computers you really do not want to take the easy way out as you can see.

                              You might also want to look at some external USB HDD to move some storage to that sway if something happens to the system you at least have a back up.
                              Maybe even clear out more storage on both drives.
                              With the ever increasing size of Windows 10 and that Windows 11 is coming out you will be needing more space for the C: than a 256GB SSD

                              Unless you are paying for McAfee antivirus you can get rid of that an just use Windows Defender. MCafee uses lots of memory. Should you decide to remove it.
                              McAfee product removal tool (MCPR) here

                              Run Disk Clean up on the drive.
                              Once it comes up after the initial scan click on
                              Clean Up System Files
                              Put hash marks in all the boxes
                              Click OK

                              Depending on the amount may take a few minutes to several minutes to complete.

                              Other than replacing the motherboard do not think that there is that much that can be done.
