The USB type would put more load on the notebook which in turn would generate more heat.

To reduce the heat, is it a good idea to 1. disable my GPU 2. remove my battery and use only charger?

You could disable the GPU when not gaming and likewise charge the battery up to 100% then remove and store it somewhere safe, just don`t forget to run it down and the recharge it back up to 100% every now and then.

Not a good idea to leave the bottom of the notebook exposed.

It is sitting on a desk at home. The battery comes from china. It is very similar to this one:
              https://www.akku.net/Akku-Info/1.10.M1316,Powerakku-fΓΌr-Laptop-Lenovo-IdeaPad-Y480-Serieβ€”Typ-L11M6Y01.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw34n5BRA9EiwA2u9k3wczRt oIjHzE2NZw5s8AJjK0dEw9iA6r6HFy89YKwnwm8TkAFxbDihoC RsAQAvD_BwE
The only things different is that the brand is called MM and it is 4400 mAh.

Some of the off brand batteries (non OEM) do get warmer that they should.

Does the battery fell hot to the touch?

                Are the fans spinning?
They may not all the time some will only if the system get to a certain temp.

Are they loud and making any type of noise?

Other than that I agree with @phillpower2 that a cooling tray would help with the heat issues.
