Weird glitch appearing on my screen randomly

I have weird glitch appearing on my screen on random occasions and I can’t find the source of a problem. When it started I can’t remember anything that would change in pc to cause a glitch. I tried switching software im using the most such as browser. So far glitch appeared on: opera, opera GX, discord, Nvidia Geforce software, MSI afterburner ( riva tuner statistics server ) overlay in game. The glitch never appeared on task bar, desktop or any windows related window. My suspicion is discord which i almost always use. But it is hard to test since glitch sometimes appears 3 times per day and sometimes once per few days. I usualy get rid of the glitch with refreshing the screen ( i open different window, or drag something over it ).

    What I tried:
    • Updating GPU drivers and Windows.
    • Uninstalling and performing clean install of GPU drivers.
    • Removing all power source from laptop for short time ( also internal battery )
    • disabling undervolt ( Core voltage offset: - 0.150 V and limited turbo boost from 90W to 21.5W )
    • I switched from Opera browser on Opera GX browser and installed firefox which i dont use
    • Im always checking temp of my system and keep it below 80°C.

    My specs:
    OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Model: TUF Gaming FX705GM laptop from ASUS
    CPU: Intel Core i7-8750H 2.2GHz
Integrated GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 630 - 128 MB VRAM
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 - 6 GB VRAM
    RAM: 16 GB
    Display: 17inch 60Hz
    Storage: M.2 SSD 250 GB ( OS )
    Storage: HDD 1 TB

Try connecting the notebook to an external screen to see if the issue is replicated on that.

I would, but don’t have that option, especialy cause of how random the glitch is. I am quite sure it’s not the screen at fault, because then glitch wouldnt be limited on software window but whole screen would glitch or at least it would affect more software windows at the same time.

2 days ago I reinstalled discord and then didn’t launch it for most of the day. But just after small glitch appeared again. So discord is not at fault.

I performed clean install of GPU driver from January when everything still worked correctly for sure. If that won’t work i’ll try even older driver.

Laptop is old 1 year and few days so I can’t imagine GPU failing gradually unless it’s a faulty part from the start.

Now the waiting game if driver solved the problem. i’ll keep you updated

Pity that you don`t have an external screen as that would have helped as you could have left it hooked up to the notebook just in case it did happen again.

Fully agree that being random makes pinning it down more difficult.

Fingers crossed that the new drivers have sorted it and thanks for the update (y) .

It has been 7 days since driver rollback and haven’t experienced glitch since.
I should also note that with clean instalation of older driver i also got rid of the nvidia experience software and his overlay.
Which means the culprit was either driver or software itself.

Today I will install software again since i like to record my games but will not update the driver.
If i don’t experience glitch in the next 3 days it is safe to say that driver was at fault.
I will update you in few days and then we can close this topic as solved.

Thanks for the update Bettley (y)

GPU driver software can be a nightmare but as it stands Nvidea drivers have for a long time been more stable than those from AMD.

Just in case you forget, be sure to create a new system restore point before installing anything.
