    Error 42127

    Firstly, Happy Holidays!!

I’ve been having issues with Word & Excel - sometimes the files will open but other times a box comes up and says “Excel cannot open the file ‘blahblah’ because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.”

So I ran a boot time scan with Avast and error code 42127 came up.

Can someone please help me out? It would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you,
    Dan S.

    Welcome to PCHF CivicExT,

Be happy to help but you have already been offered assistance elsewhere.

We are always happy to help when we can but we cannot safely do so if you are already receiving assistance on any other forum, doing so may lead to confusion as to whose and what guidance you are following which can be both dangerous and costly, decide on which forum you wish to continue and as a courtesy let the other/s know that assistance is no longer required.

    Thank you for your understanding.

I didn’t intend on there being an issue as I’ve used your services in the past (I couldn’t remember my login so I started a new account)… I forgot this website at first, so I posted my question on the other website… I waited a while and didn’t get a response - so I reached out to you… I was more-less waiting to see who answered first… I didn’t mean any disrespect or to cause any issues… I am currently getting help from the other website & if I cannot get my issue resolved - I’ll come back here… I apologize again…

I’m not sure that the tips the other site provide will fix my problem… All I did was dl and run MiniToolBox as well as Speccy… All they suggested was for me to remove Avast & McAfee and let Windows Defender provide the antivirus for my computer… I doubt that will fix my issues with corrupt excel files… I would like to see what you would like me to do? Please help me… Thank you!

No need for any apology but the advice remains the same as you are still receiving assistance elsewhere and as of your reply #3 here your thread elsewhere has had several replies three of which are yours, you are in fact waiting on a response to your reply #11.

The other forum where you are receiving assistance is a very well respected forum and the advice that you are receiving there is exactly what you would be advised here, having multiple AV programs is well known to cause various issues with some of them being restricting permissions, data corruption, internet connectivity problems and malware infection because conflicting AVs have cancelled each other out and left a computer unprotected.
