Did you run the command as Administrator.

It didn’t really give me that option. I had to use the run application to open command prompt.

Not sure what you mean I`m afraid.

To open the command prompt as administrator option, type CMD in the Cortana search field, then right click on the top Command Prompt tab and then the run as admin option, see if my screenshot helps any.

OK, I opened command prompt using this method and was able to run as administrator. When I entered the command it seemed to accept it, but didn’t give me any indication that it did or did not work. Also, my cooler came in. If the laptop’s fan kicks on while the laptop is running I can’t tell. There seems to be no change in air flow around the vent and I don’t hear it run, unless I mistaking the fan for hard disk spinning. I will test out the cooling pad and see if it helps.

Thanks again for helping me out with this!

Easy way of checking to see if Hibernation is disabled would be to run Speccy again, check the power settings and it should say Hibernation is disabled.

How has the computer been running since you made the suggested changes.

I checked speccy and hibernation is listed as disabled. Here is the link if you want to take a look, but it looks like the changes you suggested are in place.

I am happy to report that the computer has been on for nearly 24 hours without restarting, though there have been instances where it went longer than 24 hours for a restart to happen, so I won’t break out the champagne yet.

Thanks for the update, in the nicest possible way we will hopefully not hear back from you until you are happy that the issue is resolved.

Unfortunately later that night the computer froze and restarted again, and then two more times last night, despite the cooling pad. The computer doesn’t seem to have a lot of heat in the surface of the outer casing, but for the life of me I still can’t hear the fan kick on.

Can you recall what the computer was being used for each time that it froze and restarted, other than heat the only other two things that could cause such behaviour are updates being installed which you would normally be given notification and an unstable power supply which could be random.

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.
Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options:

                    [ul]
                    [li]List last 10 Event Viewer log[/li][li]List Installed Programs[/li][/ul]
                    Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply for us if you will.

The most common occurrence is when I am using Adobe photoshop but it has happened on occasion just using the internet or file explorer.

I will try minitoolbox tonight, thanks.

Here is the file from MiniToolBox. Rather than burden the forum with the results I will attach them here if that works.

It wouldn`t explain the freezing and restarts but there are a couple of things amiss in Windows.

Download then run the All in One Repair from here, disregard the malware guidance but follow the other steps to the letter and in particular ensuring that you first create a new restore point and perform a proper Windows clean boot before running the repair, details for the clean boot here.

Thank you for the help. I had a hard time running the program at first because the laptop kept freezing in safe mode, but after a while I was able to run the scans and fixes.
