    RAM slot not registering

    Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series

    Hi all,
I just recently picked up two 16 GB sticks of RAM for my laptop. After install I loaded the BIOS and it registered the increase from 8GB to 16GB in DIMM Slot A but didn’t in DIMM Slot B.

I tried switching the sticks into the opposite slots to no avail. I pulled the stick out of slot B and made sure the contacts were clean and still no result. I reinstalled the factory 8GB stick into slot B with the Crucial 16GB still in slot A and still no luck.

My next thought is to try taking out the aftermarket stick from slot A and leaving the slot B stick in, but I wanted to come on here and see if there were any suggestions first.

    Much thanks

I had something similar a year or two ago when trying to add more RAM to my laptop.
one slot took it, the other didn’t.
looked up the specs online and found it was designed that way - can’t exactly remember the reason or the actually problem, just recall it simply wasn’t doable.
so look up the Inspiron manual and see if you fall into the same boat.

Can you tell us which version of the 7000 series it is that you have so we can do some research.
