Affordable solid laptop?

Hey everyone,
I’m in the market for a new laptop and I don’t really know where to start based on the mind boggling amount of choices out there. I’ll mainly use it for internet browsing and doing school work, but occasionally will use it for gaming or editing once in a blue moon. My max price I want to pay is about $700. Do you guys have any suggestions?
