    Lenovo Failed Scan

I have scanned my Laptop and since the Lenovo warranty ran out:-
    Diagnostics
    SMART Status Test Passed
    Targeted Read Test Failed
    Random Seek Test Passed
    Funnel Seek Test Passed
    SMART Short Self Test Failed
    SMART Drive Self Test Failed

What will I see happening to my Laptop due to these failures?
When I do a Windows Diagnostic scan it passes why is that?
It seems ironic that it failed as my warranty ran out, yet I’m still under warranty from the shop I purchased it.
They will fix it so what should I do to my Laptop prior to sending it?
Should I restore it to the start date?

    Hello

IMHO…ideally it would be prudent to leave it as it is, so the shop can diagnose the issue correctly.

Yes I mean what should I save off the Laptop?
Should I restore it before sending it? Should I try a scan after that?
If it passes will it be worth still sending it?
And what am I supposed to experience from the failures?
I will send it back soon but the nearest outlet is 120 miles, and it will need to be done via courier. All im bothered with is some Computer Boffin accessing personal info while repairing it such as Bank details or Medical stuff. If Police can see everything you have done on a Computer can a PC Repairer?

If it is worth that kind a money, well that would be up to you.. I see what you are saying with your info, unless you can take your personal info out before you send it,you could do a restore.. Like all pc repairmen..they have ways to bypass most passwords..

Do you have any more info we can use? Like why did you run the test to start with!

Ok give us the model #.

Just a routine thing that I do to check if things are all right . I have Downloaded updates off Lenovo but those listed above have still failed what makes me suspicious about it is they failed at at around the same time as my Lenovo warranty ran out. But I am covered by my Retailers warranty so It will not cost me anything to get it repaired.
I would like to know what issues theses '‘failures’ create? To see if they match anything that’s occurred on my Laptop
I just would like to avoid the inconvenience of not having the Laptop for a few weeks.

When SMART shows failure usually means HDD may be starting to fail.

Run a Check Disk on the drive. Make sure to use the /r

If the HDD starts to fail then you may loose data (file(s)), may not boot.

Since the system is still under warranty would be best that you contact them since there are certain things that can be done that will void a warranty.

                      Once you have carried out the suggestion made by Rustys;

Check the HDD with CrystalDiskInfo 7.0.0 Standard Edition which you can download from here once done grab a screenshot (possibly two) of the results and attach to your next reply for us.

                      To capture and post a screenshot;

Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start…all programs…accessories…paint…left click in the white area …press CTRL + V…click on file…click on save…save it to your desktop…name it something related to the screen your capturing… BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG …otherwise it may be to big to upload… Click on the Upload a File tab then after typing in any response you have… click on Post Reply like you normally would.

Screenshot instructions are provided to assist those that may read this topic but are not yet aware of the “how to”.

After ‘‘restoring system’’ on Thursday and restarting Saturday it took so long that it wasn’t until this afternoon(Sunday) that i’ve been able to logon to Google or any search engine. I had to turn off numerous times while among other things. The screen froze, the one drive took an age to stop downloading stuff. So its going back ASP . Might as well it’s gonna cost me nothing other than a few days without it. If they cannot fix it I’ll get a brand new Laptop.

                          Update:
After calling the supplier of the Laptop I followed the instructions of doing a full restoring of device to Factory Settings.
Without downloading anything but Lenovo Solutions centre. I run scan. It has now passed.
What would of caused the failure previously?
Is it a program I’ve downloaded?
How would I know of they are the issue?
I will restore some of my programs and then run a scan after each one. To see.

Without knowing anything about the computer other than it is a Lenovo it would be both wrong and hard to even hazard a guess as to what has gone on here but if the OS concerned is Windows 10 it could have been the Windows 10 Creators Update that has caused you such problems, this because it is common with all brands of OEM computers with brand name notebooks having the most documented issues, here is just one article that describes what has happened to some folk

Let us know the exact model name or number of the Lenovo notebook and whether or not you were running Windows 10 and we will do some research.

                              Yes Windows 10.
It’s still passing all Lenovo’s scans since the restore. It’s fine speed wise. The only problem I have(Which is not technical) Is all the nonsense WIN 10 adds to the start screen, Cortana and pop-ups such as Mcafee & Microsoft Edge recommending I use them.
