overheating laptop

Hey everyone,
My sister has a acer laptop that has a overheating problem, the cpu is getting too hot and turns off usually.
it gets about 70c and when it gets to 80c it turns off.
the battery of it doesn’t work properly, I must plug it to the charger so it will work, if not it will just work for 5-10 minutes and then will turn off.
besides that, everything is ok with the pc.
can you please help me to know what exactly is the problem?

pc specs:
cpu: intel pentium p6200 2.13ghz
ram: 2gb
motherboard: acer aspire 5742z (model of the laptop)

First problem is caused by, as you noted, overheating. There are several things to reduce the heat. Clean out the laptop or at the very least try and blow the dust out of it. Buy a cooling pad with fans that plugs into a USB port.

Our netbooks sit on passive cooling pads, no longer sold. The pads have crystals in them and absorb heat and turn the crystals into gel. Since my first netbook was purchased in 2008, I’ve probably been using them for 9+ years.

The second item tells you the battery needs to be replaced. Once that is done, it will work off power for several hours. Laptop batteries last about 3 - 5 years depending on the charging/recharging that is done.

I just bought a new battery, not from Acer, for a netbook that I purchased in 2011. The battery lasted about 5 years.

One thing i used to do on my old lap top,was to open up the cd/dvd tray and leave it open to help vent the heat out.. I learn these little tips talking to some Thai IT tech’s.

One inexpensive trick is to place the laptop on a couple open egg cartons. It increases airflow. But by all means clean the dust and other stuff out of the laptop vents.

Clean up temp files and reduce startup load with CCleaner.
