No Bootable Device

I may have dug myself in too deep with this one.
I’ve been having a long saga of problems dealing with my 3 year old Acer Aspire V5-552PG. I just repaired the monitor cable which had gotten pinched and frayed somehow. It was causing the monitor to flash on and off, and then come back and say that my hardware settings had changed. I couldn’t connect to projectors or adjust the brightness either. I fix the cable, but still no projectors or brightness control. I decided that it was a driver problem, and after messing around with drivers and such I decide to go nuclear and just start with a fresh windows install. I back everything up, and plug in my recovery USB drive. When it comes to selecting the partition to install windows to, I can’t use any of them. There’s the recovery partition (obviously too small) another reserved one (too small) and the primary one. I don’t remember the error off hand, but it said something about going to microsoft.com to learn more about GPT drives. So I do that and it tells me to clean the drive and convert it to GPT. I restart and now I just get an error that says “No bootable device. Hit any key.” There is both the HD and a bootable USB in there. I hit any key and get a BIOS screen that says to select a boot option, only there are no boot options available. Thinking I may have corrupted something I formatted the drive using another PC, and tried again. I converted it to MBR to try that as well, but no joy.
What can I do to fix this? Am I completely hosed? TIA

What version of Windows are you attempting to install? Does the hard drive show up as being detected in your motherboards BIOS?

I’m trying to install Windows 10.
Now when I turn on my laptop all I get is this (imgur).
The BIOS has the following boot order:

[li]USB FDD[/li][li]ATAPI CDROM[/li][li]Network Boot - IPV4[/li][li]USB HDD[/li][li]USB CDROM[/li][li]Network boot - IPV6[/li][li]HDD: WDC WD10SPCX-21KHST0 <–that’s the correct drive as far as I know[/li][/ol]
The problem is that not even the USB drive is being recognized.

Hope you dont mind me jumping in here, but have you tried pressing ALT + F10 during initial startup to access the built in Acer Recovery?

I don’t mind at all. Sadly, alt+f10 does nothing. The HD is empty, so no more acer recovery.

Not finding that model number anywhere I`m afraid Darwins_Dog so will have to surmise that being the computer is one of the V5 range of Acer it may well have UEFI BIOS, if yes, try disabling secure boot to see if that allows you to boot from the USB device, see canned text below;

While the computer is re-starting,you will need to continually tap or hold down the particular key that will allow you to access the BIOS on your computer, we will use the F2 key as an example here;

After restarting the computer, when the screen goes black, press and hold down the F2 key, wait for the BIOS to load.

Select Security → Secure Boot and then Disabled.

Select Advanced → System Configuration and then Boot Mode.

Change UEFI Boot to CSM Boot.

Save the changes and Exit the BIOS, commonly F10.

In addition to the above, the boot sequence should be set as follows;

1: USB HDD
2: HDD: WDC WD10SPCX-21KHST0 (your 1TB WD Blue HDD).
3: ATAPI CDROM
4: Doesn’t really matter but better to be USB CDROM as opposed to any Network boot.

I think that did the trick! I mis-typed the model number in the OP (it’s a 552PG). I changed the boot mode from UEFI to Legacy (CSM wasn’t an option) and disabled secure boot. Windows is happily installing away.
