New laptop making noise when remove power cable

    Hi,

I recently bought a HP ENVY Notebook 15-as050sa

When I remove the power cord (battery), the laptop starts making a lot of noise, it’s like a whining high pitched annoying noise.

    Does anyone have any solutions?

    Thanks.

    Hello

First,is this a new laptop? If so you may want to think about your warranty..

      Hi Dustyscape, Welcome to PCHF!

If you unplug the power cord, remove the battery, and then hold down the power button to turn on the laptop for 10 seconds, does the noise go away?

        Hi!
Do you guys know how to turn off the CPU4 from the laptop? I try to go into Bios but there’s no option there - HP told me that’s the only way to resolve the issue.

CPU4? You mean Core #4? I don’t see how turning off a core on the CPU will stop a whining noise.

You can’t disable a core. You can however set it as a lower priority in Task Manager so that it won’t be used as much.
