FHD or UHD?

Hello,

I just bought a laptop for myself, now I am buying one for my son. He, like me, prefers the 17" screens. He is stuck between 2 models, only differing in the screen resolution…one is UHD, the other is FHD. The UHD is $250 more. Worth it? FHD looks incredibly good on a 17", so I’m wondering if we will really see a $250 improvement in resolution by upgrading to 4K. I’ve read around on the topic a little…as usual there’s no consensus. Some think 4K is the wave of the future and is worth it, others think 4K on a laptop screen is ridiculous..just looking for some more insight here..thanks.

4K would be nice, but what are you going to use to get value out of it. If you have a need for it go for it.

He’s not a heavy gamer, nor into any special multimedia activities..just college, browsing, streaming videos, webcam, etc..I’m not sure it would be worth that extra cost, but maybe I’m not aware of some special attribute about 4K?
