So I have a Dell Inspiron 15-5555 laptop, and for only $350 it does really well. I had my computer in sleep for like, 2 or 3 weeks and when I came back to it, it was astonishingly slow. For about 15 or 20 minutes, the hard drive displayed at 100% usage in the Task Manager. Now itβs fine, but itβs taking soooo long (way longer than it used to) to start up and load everything before it goes back to normal operation speed. I already plan on going from 4gb of RAM to 8gb (4x2) and going from a 500gb Seagate Hard Drive to a 120g Samsung 850 EVO SSD, but why would this be happening?

See no reason what that would not hurt.
I would suggest you check the amount of space you are currently using on the 500 GB HDD. I am thinking that the 120 GB will not be big enough. -

Lets see what is starting up with your machine.
Please download Autoruns. After you download the zipped folder on your desktop, right click the zipped folder and click Extract All. After the folder has been extracted open the regular folder. Run the autoruns.exe program by right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator. When you open the program, click the Logon Tab and then post a screenshot of all the startup entries on the Logon Tab in your next reply.Comment
