Converting disk from exfat to ntfs without losing data?

I want to convert an external ssd from exfat to ntfs. The problem is I have 3TB worth of data on it so backing it up to another drive and then formatting it to ntfs would take forever since I don’t have any other ssds that are that size, only mechanical HDDs which only have a write speed of like 250 mb/s. Is there a way to convert it without losing any of my data that is already on the ssd?

By this, I assume you have no backup of the data at all?

      Not possible in my experience.
Unless there is some new tool I haven’t heard of which of course is highly possible.

Changing from FAT, NTFS, exFat, or what have you has always required a re-format of the medium, therefore destroying its contents

        Same here
I’ve been looking to see if someone has a new tool I did not know about.
        Came up blank.

How big is the drive if you have 3TB of data how much free room do you have?

I concur, I know you can convert partition types, MBR to GPT on the fly but not file systems.

sorry for the late reply. after tons of looking and downloading programs and then uninstalling them I ended up transferring everything from the drive to 2 other drives then reformatting the drive to ntfs, then transferring everything back to the drive. It’s surprising there hasn’t been a way to change hte format of drive yet without losing it’s data.

                Excellent, if not long winded.
                Will close. (y)
