Comp stopped lighting up except for GPU. Wont connect to monitor. How to find out what broke, get my files from HDD?

Not sure if my 2.5" HDD (Sata), mobo, or PSU is what broke. HDD turns on when plugged into PC laptop using this Amazon.com but doesnt show on desktop. However, my external working SSD wont show up either so could be my laptop issue not HDD issue.

Tried with mac laptop, it does sense the HDD but gives message “can’t read this disk. Eject? Initialize?”

The comp is 10 yrs old, maybe time for new one anyway, what I really want is to recover my files from my HDD. How to find out its working or not, or fix it if it isnt?

Sorry but you have post on a tech forum asking for help but have provided zero information about your computer or it`s hardware, this makes it impossible for anyone to even hazard a guess as to what is going on.

Is the computer a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if a brand name, provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the CPU, MB, the RAM ( including the amount and speed ) add on video card if one is used and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable folk to better help you.
