    LaCie Minimus 2TB USB 3.0 Swapping PCB Board

    Hello Forum Community,

    Thank you in advance for your help.

    I have two external hard disks. The model number is MS35U3. Here is a link to a youtube video of the product
    (The video is not mine)

    One of the drives is dead and cannot receive power. I am wondering if I can switch out the pcb board with the working
    drive (it comes off easily with Torx drivers). I know this is risky, but the donor drive is empty and it is just an experiment;
    no important data is at risk.

    Thank you for your insight.

    Best regards,
    JDF

    Hi JDF
    Very slim chance it would work. Big chance it will not work.
    When you switch out the board you also need to switch an onboard chip.

        worst case - you end up with two dead drives.
        sounds like there is no data to worry about - so go for it.

        if you were trying to get the drive working to recover data then it’s a worth while exercise, otherwise with HDD’s being so cheap, I wouldn’t even be bothering with what you are doing.

        it would be a good little project none the less!
