PC Keeps Crashing

I bought a Asus ROG Strix G10CE premade. I took out the mobo, CPU, and GPU. I put them into an NZXT H510 case with an EVGA 600W 80 Plus power supply, upgraded RAM, and a corsair H60 AIO Cooler. I will list the full specs below.

The problem is, the pc will randomly freeze, black screen, or close to desktop randomly. I predominately play Overwatch on it and very light other games. I’ve looked at the event logs and I do get a few kernel event errors of: 41, 141, 117. Sometimes I can play for hours, sometimes it crashes halfway through the first match of OW. I have no idea what is wrong, I’ve done a clean install of Windows 11 and have uninstalled all Asus software except Asus AI suite 3. I only use AI Suite 3 for the cpu fan speed controller. The bios is updated, but awful. I cannot change XMP settings, fan speeds, overclocks, nothing. So I need software to make sure the AIO pump is pumping.

EVGA 600W 80 Plus PSU

You need a new PSU at least, the present one is so weak that it may have damaged your GPU, it is so bad that it was rated as – Tier F • Replace immediately here

Some reading for you in my canned info below;
Software such as Windows can crash and when it does crash you get a BSOD and when enabled a crash dmp is generated, programs or games when they crash can on occasion close to the desktop but the computer will still be 100% functional.

Hardware failure such as a weak power supply and/or overheating are not software related and when a computer for example suddenly turns off, freezes or the screen goes black etc the behaviour should be described as the “computer shut down unexpectedly” or froze etc and not as having crashed as the latter implies a software issue as opposed to an obvious hardware issue when described properly.

Having the correct info means that helpers will not be looking for a software issue when the problem is clearly hardware related.

So I did replace the EVGA one with the one the premade originally shipped with. Which is also probably not good, a LiteOn 500w. I’m tight on money at the moment, can you recommend a good psu that’s relatively cheap?

It also only crashes in game. It can stay on the desktop or do internet browsing without any issues. But furmark crashes it on the 1080p preset, and within 1-10 games it’ll crash in overwatch

The LiteOn is worse than the EVGA I`m afraid.

Before purchasing any new PSU it would be wise to see if you can borrow a known good one to test your build or alternatively get your GPU tested in another computer that has an appropriate PSU, last resort is to ask a local tech to test the card.

Did you happen to read the information that was provided, your computer is not crashing but instead going into meltdown, the one temp that you cannot read is that inside the PSU but if you could it would frighten the life out of you.

Your GPU specs here say a minimum of a 550W PSU is required, not just any old PSU will do for gaming spec cards like your you must have a minimum of a Gold efficiency rated PSU, I only use and/or recommend four brands, check here for what is the best for your budget.

I did read it, and yeah I did not know the psu would be that bad or matter that much. I guess considering my first build about 5 years ago was a gold+ corsair psu, I got lucky with my choice and just never thought into psu’s anymore.

I will say that I did not look at the gpu requirements, since it shipped with the 500w psu. It’s not the OC version, but still probably is close to 550w. Thank you for the list though, I will see about getting maybe the EVGA 80+ gold for $80? Would you trust any of the Thermaltake or Gigabyte 80+ gold psu’s for around $60? I used a lot of gigabyte stuff in the past, and it’s been great for me. But if you think otherwise.

Apologies for the delay getting back to you, paid work gets in the way sometimes

As stated in my reply #4 there are only four brands of PSU that I use or recommend, what you require is shown at the link provided but for the record the brands are EVGA, Corsair, Seasonic or Superflower, Thermaltake are no longer decent and Gigabyte should stick to making GPUs and MBs.

I have the pc set to a “power saver” power plan, and it runs awfully, but it hasn’t crashed at all. So I think the psu must be the issue.

Proves my point but in all honesty better to have that while you get an appropriate PSU rather than risk blowing the whole rig.

So although I haven’t completely fixed the issue, I have found stabalization at the moment. I have the cpu limited to 85% power, underclocked the gpu by ~150Mhz, and undervolted the gpu by 15%. Performance is mid, still getting 120+ fps in overwatch on high settings. And so far have not crashed since changing those (about 24 hours now).

I still need to get a better psu, but for now it is ok it seems.

Without doubt as even with those reduced settings you are playing Russian Roulette.
