Motherboard

    I had to install and removed my motherboard a couple of times. It was a very tight fit. During the process, I scratched my motherboard in a couple of places. Is my motherboard still usable or is it shot?

    If I remember correctly, everything inside the white circles was just material for the screw heads to fasten to- however it looks like the damage on yours stretches out past those. I wouldn’t be surprised if some traces were damaged in the process.

    You could try using it, but in all honesty, I have no clue what damage this could cause to other components.

    If the board is still under warranty you might be able to get it repaired/replaced, but this is pretty clearly user error- so get ready to be denied.

    Worst case scenario this is a good learning experience, we’ve all totaled our share of hardware in one way or another.

      These areas are problematic. All you can do is install and test. If it boots, consider yourself lucky.

        Agree with the above but do a barebones set up outside of the case;

        Do the barebones set-up on a piece of cardboard (make sure it is larger than the MB) only connect the PSU, the GPU, screen, 1 stick of RAM and the keyboard.

        IF your MB doesn`t have a power test switch you will then need to short out the 2 power on pins on the MB header to get the PSU to activate, you can use a small flat bladed screwdriver or a paper clip bent into a U shape, this is perfectly safe if you do not touch anything else.
