Problems with my Graphics Card/Monitor/VR Setup

    Hello guys!

I built my setup myself back in 2020/2021 and had problems with my monitors/my graphics card ever since. But since about 1 month the problems have itensified and my VR-Setup now freezes my PC permanently from time to time and forces me to reset my BIOS entirely to be able to start up my PC again at all because it just wont restart after I shut it down forcefully and restart it. But first things first, here is my setup:

    Hardware:

    BaseBoard-Product ROG STRIX X570-E GAMING
    CPU AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor, 3701 MHz, 12 Cores
GPU AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT
    RAM 32,0 GB
    System 64-Bit, Win 10 Pro
    2 Displays
Primary is a gigabyte M27Q, running both with DVI
    • Valve Index setup

Let me know if you need more Info here. I attached pics from my setup.

    The problem:

Sometimes when I start my computer one of my displays or both wont turn on. Only solution to fix this is to unplug the DVI cable from my tower and plug it back in. If I dont wait long enough (10-20 seconds) to replug it, nothing will happen and it will stay black. Sometimes it wont work at all or I just get the display stuck in a low resolution I cant change. Most of the time the problem is fixed once unplug both of them, wait 10-30 seconds, switch the ports on the tower for both and plug them back in that way.

This is mildly annoying and I just couldnt bother enough to tackle this problem.

But since about about a month ago another issue arose. Note: Ive used the Index since I got the PC and the problem just started now. Once I plug in the Valve index (DVI aswell) sometimes one of my displays blacks out at once or even both and I either cannot resolve the issue with the method stated above or it takes significantly longer. If I cannot fix it with the method above I have to unplug everything and hard reset the tower to regain control over it. And one of those times I did this my PC actually didnt boot up again and kept freezing in the booting process which forced me to reset my bios. I did not get an audio cue when this happened.

    What I tried so far:
    • Updating drivers (especially display and graphics drivers)
    • Switch DVI cables
    • Change the battery of the mainboard

I really have no idea how to fix this issue and maybe one of you guys can help me since this got so annoying to the point I cant even be bothered to use my index anymore since its just such a hassle and tends to waste tons of my time to even get it running, if at all.

Thanks for reading through this long post and I hope I phrased everything correctly, English is not my first language.

Please let me know if you require any further info, any help is appreciated at this point!

    Best regards,

When you say DVI, do you mean displayport? Just want to make sure we’re using the same terms here.

      Waiting on that PSU.

Have you tried using new cables altogether? I can’t tell if switched means you bought new ones or tried using the ones you own on different monitors.

      Let’s get some more information:

Download and run the free version of speccy.

Once you have ran speccy, follow the instructions to upload a snapshot found here.

Please list your power supply unit (manufacturer and model)

Thanks for the answers. I do indeed mean DisplayPort. Sorry for the confusion.

I have not tried getting all new cables since this issue was present since day one when I plugged in brand new cables. I just tried using the ones I own on different monitors.

I’m not really comfortable in sharing my speccy stuff online, since this discloses way too much data. What else do you need specifically?

        I have a Be quiet Powerzone 750W

        Thanks!

I understand your privacy concerns, please see the explanation for personal info shared by speccy here. The public link posted won’t share anything that could be used by malicious persons against you.

I would recommend trying another cable, just because it comes out of a box/bag doesn’t mean it is fully functional.
