Screen issues (very odd)

    I have and acer nitro n20c1 I got off eBay. The oddest thing happens. It will run fine for days, and then the top of the screen will sort of fizzle out and the laptop is unusable. I will turn it off and start it back up and sometimes it fixes itself, and sometime it won’t. I will turn it off for a few days and start it back up and it will work fine for a while. This keeps happening. I’ve had bad screen before but this is so odd, I’ve never seen something like this, I almost think it’s not the screen.

    The laptop came with a generic charger that you can change the voltage, I’ve read the laptop is supposed to be 19.5 volts so I keep it on that, but I think it could possibly be the the charger causing issues. I’m just not sure what to do, replace the charger, or the screen, or hopefully someone has and answer that wouldn’t cost me anything. ???.

    Here are some pictures. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

    The picture of the screen you can see at the type of staticky? Can’t think of the correct word. It it makes the computer completely unusable it freezes up the computer.

    Never a good idea to use anything other than a like for like replacement, too much chinese junk out there.

    Have you tried connecting the notebook up to an external screen to see if the issue is replicated.

      I have not. Like I said it will go on for days. And that was the charger it came with ugh. However looking around on the internet the charger is just as expensive as a new screen lol. So I’m torn.

      I actually don’t have and external screen. I’m sort of bad with computers so bear with me. Could I just plug it in to a tv and just let it play you mean? Wouldn’t the same thing happen if the screen goes bad? It would just show up on the tv.

        Not as expensive as a new notebook when an el cheapo power supply hoses the whole computer.

        A TV that has the appropriate video port is fine, just let us know what happens (y)

          I guess I’m just confused. The crappy power supply will stilll be plugged in. And the screen is the same. So… if the screen goes bad on the laptop it will still show good on the tb you are saying? I thought it would mirror it so it would look bad id it goes out on both screens.

              How the TV test works;

              If the TV screen is ok but the notebooks screen is bad it means that the video cable or screen are bad, sometimes both, if the image on the TV is bad it means that there is a problem with the notebooks graphic solution or motherboard, the latter includes the power/charging circuit.

              You are welcome and fingers crossed for you.

              NB: when gaming or watching videos etc, remember to keep the external power supply hooked up and the Windows Power Plan set to High Performance and not Balanced, the dedicated GPU will not get enough power otherwise, likewise, disable High Performance when not gaming.

                Will it hurt if I just leave it on high performance all the time? Always have on my previous laptops.

                  It will do no harm but I would suggest that if you need to use the notebook away from home/any wall socket change it to Balanced so as to prolong the charge in the battery.

                  Just a fyi, High Performance should only be used for notebooks that have a discrete GPU that needs the extra power, it serves no purpose otherwise and can cause stability issues/overheating issues etc.
