Thanks. I will try this tomorrow. Just to be clear, do I need to remove the battery, or can I use the integrated clear cmos button on the mobo?

The method provided is the only sure fire way of fully clearing the CMOS of any bad settings, this includes XMP settings which could still be clocking the RAM past what the CPU can handle.

You are welcome and no rush here as we cannot always be around at the same time in any event.

Nevermind. Thought I’d remove the battery tonight and leave it out all night. It was hard to find, located under what I think is a heat sink on the lower right corner.
When I took the battery out, its container came with it. Very fragile. Guess that’s why they hid it.

So I’ll buy a new Mobo. Thinking about gettimg the x670 Aurus Elite I think it was. The non extended one. Any opinions? Should I buy new ram while I’m at it and any reccomendations there?

          Thanks again.

Oh no, what a disaster, is there no way that the holder can be reattached to the MB, the shroud that was covering the battery should just unclip.

Going offline now but hopefully Peter will be around to assist you.

Had to go to an obligatory party. The holder needs to be soldered back on and I don’t have the equipment or skills for that.

It’s an extremely small solder, in my opinion.

According to the manufacture that is the incorrect place.

The battery is located under the cover where the M.2 drives to the left of them.

Scroll until you get to the diagram of the board and then in the lower left click play on the video.

Sorry for late reply, I must have missed it. That is definitely not the same board. The x670 has 4 m.2 slots, one above the GPU and 3 below. I can assure you that the thing I broke actually was the CMOS battery. I have taken them out before, and it looked exactly the same as in the video. Well, almost. I think the container was slightly different. And believe, I thoroughly checked every other location on the board, before unscrewing the heat spreader.

But I really appreciate your attention to detail here. It is quite impressive.

This other thing you will need to know if the CPU is combatable and that will tell you what RAM you need.

Still not entirely sure I’m reading the RAM requirements right. Does it mean if I’m using 2 sticks it can be 5200 and with 4 it can only be 3600?

Which motherboard are you referring to and going to be getting?

Sorry I have not been getting notices on this thread.
If you are going to use the same cpu. It can take DDR5 @5200 or 3600.
