    Ssd help

    So,I bought a new 1tb ssd for daughters pc and when put in pc it just won’t come on.
    So I decided to try external casing and attach via usb but it doesn’t show in drives in my computer.shows in device manager under usb and also under drives.but I can’t do anything with it.
    In disk management it shows up but all just greyed out and no media 0 bytes.No black box,just all grey so no options to format or anything else.
    I’ve tried everything I can think with what it will allow,which is pretty much just uninstall and then reads and update drivers.but that’s about all my options.
    I’m really stuck as to why I can’t do anything with it…Has anybody got any ideas as it’s driving me mental.

    if it is a brand new drive, it may need to be initialised.
    usually Windows does this automatically when it first detects it, but maybe not this time.

    in Disk Management, in the bottom list of drives, right click the new drive and select Initialise Disk.

      That’s the issue,I can’t??.

      It is just all grey and if I right click I don’t get the option.It basically shows like dvd drive

      Drive letter ,which I’ve tried changing ,and just say no media and shows as 0 bytes

        if it is showing a drive letter for the new drive, then it is already initialised and formatted.
        what is brand/make/model of this drive?
        and what enclosure is it in?

        have you tried plugging this USB enclosure into another PC?

        and what about going the whole hog - whack it back in the PC, disconnect all other drives and the internet connection.
        get the latest Windows build onto a bootable USB stick by using the Windows Media Creation Tool.
        boot the PC from that USB stick and reload Windows on your daughters PC onto the new SSD.
        that way Windows will work out the drive itself, if it can, and do all this ground work for you.

          Where did you buy the ssd?
          From a reputable place or was it something off the internet at a very cheap price.
          If reputable it could be a dead drive.
          If something very cheap it could be dodgy.
          As Bruce advised.
          Disconnect all other drives and boot to bios.
          Does it show in the bios or does it show on another computer

            It’s mid range priced brand that if I’m honest,not heard of,Amazon buy.

            It’s boxed and going back.I decided to use media creation kit this morning and once I boot from usb it can’t find the drive to install and not showing in bios.

              Could be dud product or dead product.
              Best to stick with brand names and reputable sites.
              Have read a lot of post with people being burned.
              Not so much the site fault just the dodgy people who sell on them.
              they can’t vet every single seller and every single product on their website.

                seems you’ll be waiting until a new SSD is acquired.
                let’s close this for now as the reason for the issue was probably the new drive.
                PM any staff member if you need it re-opened.
