Computer is very slow at rendering games no matter if I put low graphics or high graphics and making werid noises.

Hello. I’ve been having this issue for a month already and it really doesn’t bother me that much but I decided to solve it anyways. I searched for any similar problems like mine but every fix for them was reinstalling graphic drivers which doesn’t work for me. It all started when I played War Thunder and the game was freezing every 1-2 minutes. I had a high fps and it wasn’t laggy it was just freezing every 1-2 minutes and after 10-15 minutes game crashes with no error. I didn’t pay attention to that as I didn’t play that game a lot. After this I’ve seen issues in modern games like Forza Horizon 5. Game was running as always at 80 fps and the world in which I was driving was not loading. It never happened before so I decided to lower my graphic settings to minimum. Fps got up but the world was rendering very slowly. The worst problem was in Ready or Not game. It was freezing every 5 seconds and my PC made weird sounds (buzzing) like on start up. Also my sound was very laggy: when I shoot game freezes and I don’t hear sound and more. It’s like if I deleted some sound files and can’t hear half of the sounds. In some games it was just freezing and when it froze sound repeated itself for about 3 seconds and it unfroze.

In total I’ve seen theese issues in:

• War Thunder (It is playable but it crashes after 2-3 games and freezes every 1-2 minute for about 3-5 seconds)
• Forza Horizon 5 (Unlike the other games it is not freezing it’s just not rendering the world when I drive fast)
• GTA V (Only when I travel fast, if I don’t then there is 0 lag)
• PUBG
• Enlisted
• Sons of the Forest (Doesn’t even let me join the singleplayer, crashes on loading screen)

I still don’t have any issues in games like:

• CS:GO
• Valorant
• Rocket League
• Minecraft
• Rising Storm 2: Vietnam
• NBA 2K23
• NBA 2K21

My setup:
Processor: Intel Core i5-9500
Graphics Card: Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 1660 (with 3 fans)
SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe PCIe M.2 250GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB
Memory: Micron AFLD416FS1P 1x16GB 2667MHz (I tried putting it in different slot nothing changed it’s now in slot 4/4)
Motherboard: MSI H370 GAMING PLUS (MS-7B22)
Monitor: ViewSonic VX3216-SCMH-W 75Hz
PSU: 650W (Forgot the brand will update if I check next time)

Software:
OS: Windows 10
BIOS Date: 20180224
Nvidia Graphic driver 536.23

I tried:
-Updating my graphics driver
-Reinstalling my grpahics driver with DDU (Clean install)
-Reinstalling my audio drivers
-Playing without my headphones
-Physically cleaning PC
-Reinstalling games
-Changing thermal paste
-Updating windows
-Lowering my graphics to minimal
-Using benchmark to solve issues but it nailed the benchmark literally 0 freeze on it.

We 100% need to know this information as the PSU is the most important of all hardware components, the fact that you can`t recall the details suggests that it may well not be of the best quality.

You need a matching stick of RAM so that you have dual channel running at 2666MHz, 1333MHz is causing a bottleneck.

Change the Windows Power Plan to Balanced, Ultra and High Performance are a form of overclocking that is known to cause stability and overheating issues, the setting should only be used for gaming type notebooks that have a discrete GPU that needs the extra power.

The above will be what is causing the lock ups and audio issues etc.

The PSU is complete garbage, no efficiency rating and the information label clearly says 480W on the +12V rail, ignore the 120 and 18.5W as they don`t count as that power is drawn from the +12V rail, the black and yellow wires that carry the mains power.

Post a link to where you will purchase a new PSU from and we will see what we can find.

Thank you a lot for your help. Your responses were extremely fast; I didn’t even expect someone to answer this fast. I will try updating my BIOS, and I’ve set my power plan to Balanced. I’m probably going to buy some RAM, and yes, my PSU was very cheap because when I was building my PC, I wasn’t thinking about the quality of the PSU; I was thinking only about wattage. I will send you some links where I will most likely purchase a new PSU.

Any alternative links, there is nothing at the previous two that is appropriate to what you need, any good brand is way over the top both wattage and cost wise, ideally we are looking for something 500W Gold efficiency rated and from either EVGA or Seasoninc, the Corsair RM range which I also recommend did make an RM 450 and RM550 but not sure if they are still readily available.

Oh wait…I just tried to play after putting high performance to balanced and it’s not freezing anymore! Wow

It is still rendering slowly, but it doesn’t freeze, and the sound is normal. Also, the PC is not making those weird sounds.

Proves how bad that the present PSU is, the High Performance setting was making the weak PSU even worse.

The rendering will improve once you have an appropriate PSU and the matching stick of RAM.
