    M.2 caused internet to break?

Hello, recently I got a WD Black Sn850x 4tb M.2 drive for my computer.
After putting it in the slot and getting it allocated on my pc I noticed that 5gb internet connections wouldn’t show up on the menu, just 2.4. I tried resetting the router, taking the m.2 drive out, updating my drivers, resetting dns/networks, etc.
However after putting the m.2 back in, I now can’t connect to anything.
It’s worth noting I also have a Samsung Evo 860 500gb installed beforehand as my main drive (OS)
    Extra Info:
Wifi adapter: D Link Wireless Dwa-171 (Device Manager reports device is working fine and up to date)
    Cpu: Intel core i7-8700k
    Gpu: Nvidia GeForce Rtx 2060
    Motherboard: Asus Prime z390a
Psu: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G3 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

    Thanks

If you put the original drive in does everything work correctly?

Is this drive just for storage and or the operating system?

How did you preform the install, and did you remember to install the drivers in the proper order starting with the chipsets?

Correction: I’ve been using both drives at once and they both work fine. I’ve taken out the m.2 with the ssd still in and I’ve still been having internet problems

The m.2 drive is just for storage, os is on the Evo 860.

There was no drivers for the m.2 to be installed if thats what you mean? Everything was automatically up to date when I first put it in the pc. The only drivers I’ve updated after the incident is my gpu and windows updates if that counts but that didn’t do anything

Update: so I’m finding out it was the wifi dlink USB that broke despite device manager saying it was perfectly fine - it may work but it’s performance has slowed dramatically only seeing one close connection that I can’t connect to.

If anyone still has any insight as to why this happened before this thread gets closed I’d greatly appreciate it as I’m worried it will happen again with the new USB I ordered.

Did you try it in another usb port.
Is it plugged into a back usb port?
If not you may have bumped the cables on the usb header

Not the port, the dlink itself. All my other usb devices work fine. I tested it on another computer and it wasn’t working on there either

From the sounds of it the D Link may be showing signs of going out.

Device mange will show ok if it can communicate with the device.

Sometimes removing the reference from device manager and rebooting clears up some issues.
May have to also have “Show Hidden Devices”

Testing in and or on another system also reveals if the device is working or not properly.

If you did not discharge the system and yourself properly you may have caused damage to it that way as well.

You can get a replacement WiFi adapter and see if it works correctly.

Got a new dlink and everything works fine now. I’m not 100% sure what broke the original dlink when I was simply installing an m.2 but I’ll be more careful with discharging static electricity.

                Thanks for the help/advice everyone
