Infinite auto repair loop

Ok, so this is a strange one.
Let’s start with last year, I bought an m.2 SSD because my other SSD was getting low on space and sometimes it would CTD with a blue screen and I could not figure out why so a new SSD and a new Windows 11 install seemed to be the way to go.
I installed Windows 11 on the new SSD and formatted the old one so it had nothing on it and I could use it to install games on.
Everything was fine for a while but a few months later the old SSD drive would disappear from My PC and on Disk Manager so I unplugged one HHD at a time(I have 2 other normal hard drives)to see if it was because I was drawing to much power(Even though I have an 800w power supply).
Finally got it to show up after using a different power cable and everything was again fine until today.
Today I was playing a game and the game froze and hard crashed and had to turn the power off at the wall but it restarted again and I put it down to a mod I just installed for the game so I removed that mod and played the game again which was fine for 5-6 hours but then the game hard locked again but this time it did a few different things:

1. Right after the restart it was stuck at the screen where it says you can press del or f11 so I restarted.
2. It did this 2-4 times.
3. It then went to auto recovery which I expected but it could not fix the start-up error so I tried to put it in safe mode.
4. Went to auto recovery and got stuck in a loop, I could go to the command prompt, but I could not go back to a recovery position because it said it could not replace a game I deleted so I was stuck in an auto recovery loop.
   I then unplugged my old SSD and it booted up right away.
   So my assumption is that there is something wrong with the old SSD but I can not think what since I did recently check its health and it was fine and like I said I formatted the drive so there was nothing on it and I only put games on that drive(P.S the game I was playing was NOT running from the old drive but the new one).
   So I was wondering if anyone experienced something like this or had ideas why it happened as an SSD can be hot swapped so in theory even if something went wrong with the drive as long as I am not using it why would it lock the computer and why would it stop me from booting up from the m.2 SSD.

Update, Played skrim for around 1 hour and the game froze, then screen semi dark as if screen was about to fade to black but gets stuck, still hear Youtube then a few seconds later loud buzz no more youtube then a minute or so computer shuts down.
This is with the SSD still unplugged so I assume graphics card maybe but its a rtx3080 or maybe a mod causing game to freeze.

Update 2.
Playing game again and the screen froze and I had to go downstairs so thought it would reboot came back and it did reboot but to Bios and the m.2 SSD with windows on it was not showing up so I looked inside to see if it was seated ok and it was so turned it back on and it booted to windows. No idea why the m,2 ssd was not showing up and this crash was not as bad as the others aka no dark screen or loud noise just the screen froze.

get Speccy from here; Speccy - Download Builds
in Speccy, click File > Publish Snapshot (hit Yes if prompted to proceed with publish) > Copy to Clipboard > Close.
now you can paste (Ctrl+V) that link into your next post.
One component Speccy doesn’t cover is the Power Supply Unit, so also include the make/model of the PSU.

SSD’s aren’t hot swappable by default, it’s controlled in BIOS and in my experience the default setting is set to OFF.

sounds like there is a question mark over this old SSD, so I would be suggesting running the rig with all drives disconnected except the boot drive of course for a few days to see if the problems persist.
it may also be worth while doing the reinstall of Windows again, with those drives disconnected, the internet unplugged, and reload the chipset drivers before rejoining the network.

If I can find my usb I might reinstall windows but I have downloaded all the drives from my motherboard website and installed them.
I will try tomorrow using just my windows boot drive see if that helps, I do have 5 HDD and one does not show up I should really unplug it since it has not shown up no matter what I do.
Then the older 120GB SSD which I unplugged but plugged it back in again now just to format it that seemed to be having problems as I did a speed check and it was 50mb/s read after format it was at 220mb/s

from the Speccy report, I see the 120GB SSD showing signs of a long life, time to retire it.
the Samsung 850 SSD has had quiet a few temperature exceeded alerts and CRC error counts for such a young drive.

Well, I tried with just the m2 and 1 HDD and everything was fine until I had to go have dinner and came back and the computer was in bios(Yeah I left game running) this time m2 was gone for good.
Nothing I did could make it show up in bios and since it was my boot drive I could not get into windows since the bios could not detect the m2.
I put the m2 in the other slot and nothing so I had to find my old cd rom and an old windows 8 disk and I had to change bios to run csm to get the cd to boot the disk.
I then had trouble installing windows 8 because it was a gpt drive so figured out how to make it mbr and installed win8. I then upgraded it to win10 after many hours of trying to get the network card to load had to use my work portable hdd to download the drive on from laptop to load it to win8.
Now I have win 10 those 3 HDD which the 850 was a pain because for some reason it would not work in one of the sata slot aka the HDD and 120Gb SSD are using a power cable with 4 power connectors and if I used the 3rd one and a certain sata port it would not work but seems to be ok now on a different power cable and different sata port.
I wish I could say everything is fine now but even with a fresh install of win 10 I went to have dinner and left the computer on(Just on nothing running) and came back to a screen with horizontal coloured lines and had to force the computer off.
So from being 100% alright before playing skrim to the m2 ssd gone bye bye and ports not working and fresh install and still came back to a mess.

my two cents…
the 120GB SSD should be retired, or at least relegated to external duties (backups, file transfers, media library).
the 850GB m.2 has SMART alerts and I’d be taking it out of my system personally.

While you are probably correct I had no choice but to use the 120gb to install the new windows as I did not want to format the 850 or the 3tb HDD.
The question is are those errors capable of making my 2tb m2 SDD disappear and/or cause the game I was playin on the m2 ssd boot drive to start this problem?
I would have thought that either of those ssd’s would not cause the boot drive to go bye bye especially since the game was running from that m2 drive so I would imagine that if those had a problem it would not affect the boot drive.

it means data on the drive has failed the basic cyclic redundancy check.
in short, a CRC failure means the data that was retrieved is not the same as when it was written.

while it doesn’t have to mean the drive is failing, it does mean some files are no longer valid, and if they are system files, then who knows how the OS will interprets what it reads.
if you are lucky, some CRC errors are caused by faulty SATA cables, but your errors are on the m.2 drive.

Can you point out where the errors on the m.2 were as the only link that has the m.2 is the speccy link and that has no info on errors (ADATA SX8200PNP (SSD)) as it said smart no enabled so I do not understand why you know that my errors was on there.
I see that the Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB had Real value: 24 Current: 99 but it says Good and SanDisk SDSSDA120G says 5 current 100 good.
BTW not saying your wrong but I would like to understand, as from what I read the raw value is how many crc errors has happened aka 5 and 18 which is not many and no way of telling when they happened they could have been from ages ago can’t they?
I can imagine that if the m.2 was having “issues” that would cause my pc to freeze and die and why bios could not see it just seems weird as I have not had it long. I have ordered a new m.2 and an external m.2 case that you supposed to be able to insert an m.2 and more or less have a portable m,2 ssd, the idea is to first put the new m.2 in the external case see if it actually works and if it does then put my old one in it to see if it detects it, this will see if its my m.2 slot or the ssd.
BTW thx for all the help and information, it’s been a hard few days losing my computer and having people help me makes things a little better.

you are dead right regarding the SMART values - no way to tell when they happened, but you mentioned in post #1 that you bought the EVO 850 last year, so I was thinking it was new’ish, how old is it?

I just checked the SMART entry for Power On Hours and see its got over 1000 days - does that seem right?
it has recorded 26 high temperature alerts and 24 CRC errors - both those fields on most systems would be zero.

my money is on a SSD (or both) going pear-shaped.
if it was me, my resources would be going towards a new SSD and reloading Windows on that.

what’s is the warranty on the EVO, I think Samsung does a 5 year warranty on their NVMe m.2 EVO range.

Unfortunately I bought everything from ebay so no hope of a refund, I have bought a new m2 drive should be here today or tomorrow and a usb stick to make a windows 10 boot usb.
The m2 that has gone bye bye I bought august last year but was from a person on ebay it was new but they have a no refund policy and its been to long for ebay to make them refund it after all it worked until now so nothing I can do.
Do not understand how they got so hot I bought a new case with loads of fans and the HDD were in a separate section in the bottom but **** happens don’t like the thought of my other 2 drives joining the m2 lol, got no money left now.
