Computer Randomly Freezes (gaming/web-browsing/being idle)

Hi, my computer has started to freeze randomly within the past couple of weeks. Sometimes multiple times per day, just once, or not at all. It happens no matter what activity I am performing.

During the crashes I get multiple “Error Event 35 Kernel Processor Power” on the even viewer (though now Im not sure if this was a cause or just a reaction to me using power button to shutdown). Because of this I have done things like factory reset/updating BIOS firmware and unseating ram/gpu, flash mem.

Not sure what to include (here are some basics)
OS: Windows 10
Processor: Intel(R) Core™ i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz 3.05 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070
Motherboard: EVGA 131-GT-E767

The CPU is badly overheating and you have almost zeroed out of free storage space on one or more drives, the 1TB Hitachi HDD is showing imminent failure.

Any idea why your RAM is not working in triple channel.

Well that is obviously more/worse news than I wanted.

For the CPU:
I thought temps of 60-70 were okay? Speccy was run while I had games/programs in the background.
Below I have attached another profile snapshot while at IDLE (just speccy and this web browser open) and temps are high 40s to low 50s. Is this still bad for a CPU let me know.

For the Drives:
Programs/games/apps keep getting bigger and I haven’t kept up with storage space. I have some externals I can start moving important things to especially for the Hitachi which I believe is my oldest drive (2010 or 11).

For the RAM:
I have no idea why it says Dual channel. I did reseat them recently but tbh, they could have been setup like that for a very long time.

Follow-up question:
I see on the Hitachi all of the SMART attributes report as ‘GOOD’ but it overall it has ‘Status: Warning’. The only difference I see between it and my other drives is a listed temp of 30C.

Is this HDD running hot for some reason and that is what is leading to its possible failure? All of my drives are located roughly in the same physical location within my case with regard to air flow etc. So this hotter temp might be attributed to internal mechanics causing excess heat??

The thermal cut off trigger for your CPU is 67.9°C so your CPU is still too hot I`m afraid, this could be as a result of it being overworked by the demands being placed on it by the storage devices that are choking, taking just the most important for now, the Windows boot device;

For Windows to be able to run efficiently and to be able to update you need to have between 20 and 25% of the partition or drive available on a HDD and an SSD between 10 and 15% as free storage space at all times, if you don`t you risk Windows becoming corrupt or not being able to update which puts you at risk of malware attack.

Data only storage devices should not be allowed to get any lower than 10% of free storage space of the full capacity of the drive/partition on the drive, this also to avoid data corruption.

[COLOR=rgb(184, 49, 47)]Please note that storage devices can physically fail if the amount of free storage space is allowed to drop below the required 10 or 20/25% minimum.

Uninstall as many unused programs, games, videos and music files as you can and get yourself another means of backing up to, post back when you have between 20 and 25% free storage space on the C: drive/partition and we can go from there.

In answer to your follow up question, mechanical HDDs will start having issues when the temps get to circa 50°C and being that the Hitachi is well below that heat is 100% not the cause of the warning and being that there is no partition information and the state of your other storage devices the chances are that the warning is being caused by data corruption as in data being overwritten etc, sort out the C: first and don`t save or update anything until we have given the drive/s a clean bill of health.

The CPU temp has now dropped from 64 °C to a more respectable 44 °C so freeing p the space has already helped.

Any further random freezes.

Any other partitions that are low on free storage space need to be sorted asap.

The day after (Sunday) I cleared up my C: drive I had no issues at all. However, I had three on Tues and 4 on Wends. Some occurred while playing a game, one while just on youtube, and one where I left my computer idle and took a shower came back to a frozen screen.

Currently working on clearing out other drives now to get to 20%+ free space.

Have a suspension that you have ran low on storage again.

Best thing to do is REPLACE the C drive with no smaller than 250 GB.

Hi, new update…deleting huge games is much easier than trying to find stuff on my C drive to delete. All drives now have 20%+ free.

The Hitachi below (my E drive) also has ~300GB free even though speccy isn’t picking it up.

The CPU is still overheating.

The Windows boot drive too small.

One known to be failing drive.

In addition to the above, we can now see a Seagate Backup+ SL SCSI Disk Device, you don’t want to be adding any more load to an already struggling PC, disconnect the USB drive or risk losing it along with the rest of the hardware.
