    Extreme Graphics Issue When Booting

After countless hours of searching online and in forums like these I have not even been able to find someone with the issue I’m having, let alone a solution. When and only when booting my PC, there is an extreme graphics card failure. The frames get extremely choppy for about two-three seconds and then it black screens for about the same time, this repeats roughly every ten seconds until I either reboot or it shuts off. Oddly enough, if I reboot, (usually takes more than a few times) it will boot just fine and will have no issue at all, until I shut down the PC (which I do so infrequently now).

From what I can remember this issue started when I put in another GTX 1650 Super, which was identical to the card that was in there. After it first started I took the new one out, the issue persisted, swapped the other one in, the issue persisted. I’ve done everything that would seem like a simple fix, such as clean wipe and install new drivers using DDU and even going as far as to completely wiping my PC and clean reinstalling.

To provide some extra insight into the issue I’ve monitored with NZXT and it shows my graphics card losing complete power respective with the screen flashing in and out. If I run a Windows troubleshooting scan it gives me the screen saying there is an issue detected but no reference to what it is. I’ve run other third party troubleshooting apps and they have also detected nothing. This is clearly not a performance issue as it has never started under high load and strictly when I boot.

The following is a list of every part installed:

    GTX1650 Super

    MSI MPG X570

    AMD Ryzen 5 2600X

    HyperX Fury 16GB

I’m also attaching some screenshots, unfortunately I had to take some of these on my phone. Thank you so much in advance!

g’day Deen and welcome to the forums.

    just checking…
it now has the problem with the new card, and the old card, and if no card?

have you tried using the other PCIe slot on the mobo?

Are you using a 6 pin power connector to the card.
Do you have a spare 6 pin power lead on the psu.
If yes swap the power lead.

Hey Bruce! Thank you for the response. This is the original card I purchased when building my PC but I found myself with a second GTX 1650 Super that I installed but promptly took out after having issues.
I just switched the GPU to the other PCIE slot and after a few restarts it doesn’t seem to be having any more issues. Is this a permanent solution or are there any negative effects to keeping the GPU in the second slot?

since the GPU is working now, that would indicate the first slot is the problem.
each slot has a controller chip, perhaps that has been fried.
if everything else on the motherboard is working, you can mark it a lucky escape from, maybe, a power surge.

both of those slots are PCIe x16 speed, so there is no negative issues using it. and yes!, this would be a permanent solution - until you ever wanted to run two GPU’s or until you replace the motherboard.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the help, I’ve continued to not have any issues.
