Trying to do a bios flashback on the MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk

Just got the parts for my new PC this evening and started building. The build includes the MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk and the 13900K. I tried doing the bios flashback after every component was installed.

There was a 16 GB USB stick (seems like USB 2.0 from its black color) included in the motherboard package. It included some old drivers but thought it would be perfect for the bios flashback. So I deleted the old drivers, formatted the stick, downloaded new updated drivers, and tried doing the bios flashback (I followed a youtube tutorial doing this). The flashback started and after about 8 minutes the mobo restarted. I waited for I a couple of minutes but got no display signal on any of my monitor ports on the computer.

Then I tried to do the flashback again with the same stick, but the exact same thing happened. After that I tried another 16 GB USB stick which I think is USB 2.0, but not sure. This time the bios flashback LED started blinking but the computer hardware did not turn on as it did with the MSI stick. It is at this very moment blinking and has done that for about an hour. I don’t know what to do right now and I am afraid to remove the flash drive or restart the computer.

    Why flash the BIOS?

Might want to contact MSI since the motherboard is new and carries a warranty.

Stopping it may end up making it a paper weight.

You have to do a bios flashback on all Z690 motherboards if you want to use a 13th gen intel CPU in them. I don’t know if its something wrong with the motherboard since a lot of people has problems flashing their bios when getting a new CPU.

Yes, but I have no way to view the progress of the flashback. I don’t even know if it actually started correctly, the blinking LED is the only sign. And usually, there should be more signs. Like fans spinning

          You probably trashed the BIOS.

Did you try the SOP or the instruction in the Manual?

          SOP Download

          Manual P 36

          1. The LED will be turned off when the process is completed

Under the FAQ there is some help yet they show for other MB yet may be something.

No, I did not follow the manual. But used a video from youtube doing a flashback on the same model.

Edit: Just read over the manual and I did the exact same steps as explained there.

              Two choices

              Contact MSI for assistance.

Stop it and see if it still works. Attempt it one last time.
Other than that, wait and see if others have suggestion.

Final thought is to clear the CMOS might be something there that is causing it to hang.

some can also be updates without anything attached to the motherboards.
              (Outside of power)

Sent a mail to MSI now. Hopefully I get a answer in relatively short time

I tried to call. But they do not have customer support in Norway, and I cant to call to other countries.

Did you watch the video that is on the BIOS update page?

Do not know if you tried the online Custome Service apparently the online Chat is also not available to you.

Attempt what we stated with no CPU.

While the video that you linked may have worked not the proper information. Which is why you should ALWAYS refer to the site for proper information and instruction.

Otherwise, we end up possibility bricking the system.
