Greetings & Kind Regards I added a PCIe SSD made it the boot drive C . Subsequent the original C drive now G will not permit writes to itself w/o administrator privileges . The permissions of G are identical to those of C . Please advise . Thank You Kindly

Hello

Does the ( G ) drive still have the old OS on it?

You can’t have second OS ,doing that cause’s a boot up conflict.

How can it be a conflict if the BIOS has been informed to boot from the SSD . Also apparently there is no conflict as system boots successfully .

You replaced the C drive and installed the OS and or imaged it.

If you are if G is disconnected does the system still boot and operate properly.

How is G drive connected to the system?

Do not forget to post the make and model of the PSU if this is a desktop.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

to add to what is already said.

if you remove the new SSD, does the original C:\ come back to life and is writeable?
if so, while connected, backup all your data off it.

then plug back in the new SSD, making the old go back to G:, then wipe G:.

weird and I haven’t seen this before, but it may have something do to with how the new SSD was created.
and yes, should be no logic reason why the old C:\ still isn’t completed read/write accessible, even with the old boot records on it.

hopefully your answers to Rusty’s questions may shed some light.

for me, I’d be disconnecting the old drive.
then reinstalling Windows onto the new drive via a bootable USB stick created by the Windows Media Creation Tool.
that should give a fresh, clean OS onto the new SSD, and make the old one writeable.
still not sure why it isn’t but hey, it is what it is.

only reason I can give is imaging is a quick and easy way to get a new drive up and running, but doesn’t allows pan out.

until this is validated as completed no further assistance will be given by me.
