Dead PC after surge

I got an Acer N50-650 compact gaming PC from a friend who said it died after a power surge. I’m fairly confident where this is going but I thought I’d ask because I’m not 100% how to test one of these new types of PSUs and Mobos.
I’m not 100% what the mobo model is but it’s an Acer compact with an Intel processor, i5 I think, the PSU is a Liteon 500w and it uses these new DATX 6 pin connectors instead of the old 24 pin that in used to. Any ideas on how to test the PSU and the mobo? I’m well out the game. One thing I have done is checked the BIOS button cell and all the fuses in the PSU, mains plug etc.

Can you get the exact model name or number off the PSUs information label for us.

as you may have alluded too yourself, if the PSU was a simple fix, why wasn’t it done by your friend.
either hard to get or expensive or he simple didn’t won’t to waste time and money on that part only to then find out then that the surge has effected other components.

as to testing a PSU and mobo, there is sadly only one real test - put them (one at a time) into a rig that you know works and see if it still works.
but of course, you’ll need to source a rig that is compatible with your parts, and there in lies the rub.
