Error code 0x8000ffff

Hello,
Recently I have been attempting to play Warhammer Darktide and Modern Warfare 2, however both games give me the error code “0x8000ffff”. Google searches have led me to repairing my windows updates, resetting my pc, deleting and reinstalling my drivers and running hardware scans. However none of these have fixed these issues. Any help at all is appreciated.

You have post on a tech forum asking for help but have provided zero information about your computer or it`s hardware, this makes it impossible for anyone to even hazard a guess as to what is going on.

Please provide information about your computer, is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if a brand name, provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the CPU, MB, the RAM (including the amount) add on video card if one is used and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable folk to better help you.

Your hardware is ok so I suspect that it is a software issue and with Windows not the games.

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.

Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options;

List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Installed Programs
List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply for us if you will.

Your two biggest problems seem to be being caused by Avast and the Wireless adapter.

Why have you even got Avast on the computer apart from it foisting all sorts of crap on people there is also the small matter of Avast admits to ‘unacceptable’ sharing of user data: what you need to know

Get rid of Avast and try connecting the PC to the internet via the Ethernet port, it is far better for gaming than WiFi in any event.

Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and 11 come with an improved Windows Defender, it offers the same real-time anti-virus/anti-malware protection as Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender also shares the same malware signature definitions as Microsoft Security Essentials, and Forefront Endpoint Protection. Technically, Microsoft Security Essentials has not been renamed Windows Defender, or combined with it in Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and 11.

If any AV product that you have is a paid for version you should always make sure that you have a copy of the product key kept somewhere safe just in case you ever wish to reinstall it.

You can uninstall Avast in the Control Panel but should you have any problems see Avast clean removal info here Please create a new system restore point first.

Once Avast has been correctly uninstalled, check to see if Windows Defender has auto enabled and allow it to update and carry out a full scan of your computer.

Once done, restart, test by using the computer as you normally, post back with an update when you are ready.

HI, thank you for telling me about the Avast situation I actually had no idea. Unfortunately it’s not possible for me to get an ethernet cord to my PC however avast in uninstalled. Is there a way to repair the driver error that is affecting the adapter?

You have post back but not provided any feedback regarding what was advised, was all of the above done, if yes, what testing was done and what was any outcome.

You are welcome btw

Hello, all steps were followed aside from ethernet cable since I can’t reach one to my pc. Full scan showed no issues and avast has no more software on this pc however the same issue is still active.
