    Need help with HDD

First,hi to everyone and i apologize in advance if i posted this in the wrong section.

Second,i dont really have a problem with my hdd, more like a question about it which might sound stupid to someone here who know a lot about this stuff,i know some stuff but not as some experts here maybe.

I will need to explain other stuff that are not related to the hdd so that you guys can fully understand what the problem is.Im currently runnin a win7 os(not by my choice,it was more like a emergency installation of win7,had some problems and needed to format the hdd,the only os at the time i had was a win7)

Now i want to upgrade to win10 because a lot of stuff is not supported on win7 anymore but the problem is the microsoft media toolkit doesnt run or work anymore on win7,at least for me.

So i want to do it myself trough a third party program,“Rufus” but i also dont want to loose my files, games mostly,it would take ages to download them again.I have read on the internet that this can be done, but the win10 installation needs to be the same language, location etc as my current win 7 is to be able to get the option “upgrade” which doesn’t delete your files.
So, can i change the region ,language, location and all that stuff to english (us),since the win10 installation is english (us) before i start the installation to be able to get the option “Upgrade”?.If that doesnt work, then i thougth about another option which is the question about the HDD,

Will i be able to transfer the files that i dont want to loose to a different HDD on a different pc and then transfer them back from that HDD to the one im planning to install win10(current pc) this i don’t know cuz the HDD in the other pc has win7 as an OS while this one would be win10(currently win7 too)can i make the one that has win7 on it as not “primary” hdd so it doesn’t matter what OS it is running or is this just not possible?

Any help would be much appreciated

What i meant by this : “can i change the region ,language, location and all that stuff to english (us)” in the settings of the win7 before the win10 installation so it matches the installation, does that work?

      Welcome to the forum, Alladeen.

You can absolutely put all of your sensitive data on another driver and then add them back to your machine once you get W10 up and running.

If you want to go a step further, you could also make a System Image, programs like Macrium Reflect allow you to completely clone your system into a backup file, some also allow you to browse and retrieve files from those backups.

Have you downloaded and tried the Windows Media Creation Tool?

As far as keeping settings, here is a chart provided by Microsoft:

This one doesn’t work for me though,i think i mentioned it above,if it would i would not need to use a third party program to make a bootable usb os.
This is the error i get when i try to open the media toolkit : Screenshot by Lightshot

I’ve never seen this error before, but we can certainly try to iron it out if you’re willing to test some ideas with me.

          If so, let’s start:

Go here and click the hyperlink for Easy Fix.

This tools messes with some registry files, you should backup anything and everything you don’t want to lose before running it (a preventative measure just in case).

Creating a system image/restore point is a good idea as well.

After you’ve installed and ran Easy Fix, check for any system updates and restart the machine through the power menu.
