Advice for best graphics card upgrade

Hi all,

My PC is pretty old and but still serves me well for the few games I enjoy playing as I get older and have less time for it. However, recently, my graphics card has started to give out after its very loyal service. After much consultation I’ve reached the conclusion the issues it displays are not software, but hardware, and thus, it is time to find a replacement.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 graphics card, with an Intel(R) Core™ i5-4570 CPU @ 3.20GHz processor and 16GB of RAM.

Any suggestions on what graphics card might be best suited to replace my dying one would be appreciated.

Look inside your computer and tell us the model of power supply, wattage, and rating.

Depending on your budget, I’d look at a GTX-1070, they’re pretty cheap now and should have enough power for games leading up to current times (Not on max settings/4k).

The reason I say a 1070? It’ll match you CPU nicely, they are relatively inexpensive, and they give off a good bit of power as long as you’re not wanting to play the newest games at the highest settings (which makes them a decent choice for almost everything).

If you give us a better idea of what you’re looking to play I can get a better idea of your needs.

This is with a big caveat however, what you would like to spend and what games you want to play will make a huge difference in what you should buy. Ultimately PC Building is budget based, if you only want to spend a couple hundred dollars then you wouldn’t be wanting to do a complete system overhaul regardless of how it can affect performance.

A few other quick notes:

Using 3 sticks of ram isn’t the best choice since that extra 8GB you have will run at half of the speed of the rest, this is due to the way motherboards are set up and your particular system is configured.

You only have a single hard-drive in the system, investing in a SSD (even a small 250-500GB one for your Windows installation and frequently used programs would speed the machine up a lot.

A 1660/1660Ti would be a great option for something newer, I failed to notice that 1070s are only sold refurbished now.

Possibly but I note that you recently reinstalled Windows 10 but after doing so you did not correctly install the system drivers.

Power supply is a Corsair CX600, total power 600W.

One of the worst PSUs Corsair ever made so 100% has to go, if there is something amiss with the GPU the PSU most likely caused it.
