Did my friend ruin my cpu?

I had no display ln my monitor when cpu was running.

We opened my case up to try to reseat graphics card/ram, and he grabbed a wire labeled ground and randomly stuck it in to a motherboard receptacle.

Was the stupidest thing ive ever seen.

In pic, bottum right you can see loose ground wire. Thats right about where he stuck it in, near start/led light sockets.

From that point on, the motherboard is 100% dead.new power supply, unhook cpu and ram.

    Wont power on.

Did that destroy motherboard or was it just going bad?

He said he stuck it into thr LED display socket.

Its just, that is the exact moment the motherboard never powered on again.

It was having issues, 1 crash and no display…idk if it was running but fans/lights were on.

      After that, quite literally nothing.

where is the red (positive) cable plugged into?
and where does that cable go to - the processor fan?

Yea it was the fan. That plugs never been messed with.

He said he ugged the black one into the led display(for case), but its right beside all the start/power receptacles.

So yeah. After that, when you start it, nothing. Even with new PSU…

If i change the motherboard, idk if the original issue is resolved or he caused it.

          Idk anymore

at this point, it doesn’t matter what caused it, you’ll need to replace the motherboard before any further testing can be done.
personally if he did what he thought he was doing, that shouldn’t have caused this issue, worst case, the fan would be dead.
but of course, we don’t know what he actually did!

He had no idea what he was doing. It was just danglijg by a receptacle and he shoved it in.

                oops!

are you happy to close this for now and of course, PM any staff member to re-open it when you get your hands on another motherboard.

                        Assuming that doesnt work…

Idk what else to do. Motherboad should have a display even w.o graphivs card shouldnt it?

So back to new power supply? I never got to test new PSU until after he plugged ground wire into circuit.

all depends if processor has integrated graphics and motherboard has video ports.
what is make/model of CPU and mobo?

                            Update…

The monitor i tested it on was bad. When i got home, it fired up.

Wow. So much random **** to slog through. I also had a hard drive plugged into wrong slot, because the mother board was slightly different.

                            Its all running fine.

So the entire issue, was some short on the motherboard started it all. Whatever damage my friend did, the motherboard was already bad so it didnt matter.
