Is my CPU causing my PC to not boot up?

Recently my power supply died so i went and got a new one, once It got here i set it up but once I tried booting it up, the PC wouldn’t turn on. I asked if it was the PSU but it isn’t cause everything connected to my PC like my external hard drive and some LED’s i have turn on once I turn the switch on the power supply, so it can’t be that. I tried checking if i connected each cable correctly and everything was fine, but the PC still wouldn’t boot up. I double checked everything and started to unplug and plug everything and i had left to do something quickly but i didn’t realize that i left the cpu cable unplugged. Once I came back my PC managed to boot up, but then I quickly realized that my CPU wasn’t plugged so i went to turn off the PC so that i can replug the cpu conector. But When i try plugging the cpu cable to the motherboard, the PC won’t boot up. Pretty much my PC for some reason only turns on when the cpu power connector isn’t connected. Could my CPU be the problem or is it something else that I’m not realizing?

    My specs are:
    Intel 10400F
Thermaltake ux 100 5v cpu cooler
    Rtx 2060
Evga 610 bp 610w bronze rated power supply
    Vulcan G 512 ssd
    8x2 gb olay ddr4 3200mhz ram
    Deepcool matrexx 50 case
    2tb WD external hard drive

It can certainly still be the PSU, just not likely. Just to be absolutely sure, have you double/triple verified that all the power connections are securely connected? Specifically the 4/8 pin CPU and Mobo Power connections?

It does not make sense for the computer to power up and boot without the CPU power being connected.

Do you have a picture of the inside of your computer that you could share?

Have you tried connecting only the needed components? So just the CPU,PSU,RAM, and Mobo. Leaving everything else like the HDD unplugged.

If so, what are the results?

Yeah I’ve checked a thousand times to make sure everything was connected and still nothin. Tried only connecting the key components, and still the same problem. I know it sounds crazy for it to turn on without the cpu connecter but let me find a site so i can send a video to prove it

I see no video just so you know.

After working with a friend who has the oddest issues ever, I certainly belive you.. it just doesn’t make sense. lol. Just to confirm it is fully booting up into the operating system when the CPU power is disconnected ?

If you could post a picture or some video, it would help with diagnosing the reported issue you are having.

Yeah i posted a reply with a Google drive file thats the video but it says that the message is waiting for a mods approval (I’m sorry this is my first time posting something here so I’m not to sure how everything works lmao)
But no it doesn’t fully boot up to the OS or anything, it just stays on without any output. I’m guessing it’s cause it just doesn’t have anything to go off of? Idk but it just stays on and doesn’t do anything

Ah yeah that makes sense. A mod will approve it soon enough.

Thank you for clarifying on what it is doing.

Did your old PSU just randomly die or was there a power surge?

It is possible that the motherboard got shorted out due to the previous bad PSU. Specifically the CPU VRM.

Does this problem still occur with the GPU completely removed?

Well my PSU had died because I had it connected to a battery outlet and one day i turned the PC on and the battery just started beeping, turning my PC off and after that it hasn’t turned on after that. So i don’t know if that was some sort of high voltage problem from the battery that ended up frying my psu and maybe the cpu in the process.

And yes, the problem still happens with the GPU removed from the PC

It is very possible that more than the PSU got fried.

I am going to tag a few others for some second thoughts on the issue.

Was the power switch turned off when you attempted to boot it with the CPU power cables connected? (It looks like it was off until you unplugged the CPU connectors)

What battery backup system did you have your computer connected to? Have you hooked it straight up to a power source since?

Are you able to test against a known good PSU, your unit should be sufficient for your GPU.

Have you tried resetting your BIOS?

There is no need to quote your replies, the forum will organize them chronologically, and helpers are able to help more easily if they aren’t looking past quotes.

The power supply switch was on when in turned it on with the cpu conector plugged, I just turned the switch off before taking it out just in case i wouldn’t get shocked or something like that lol.

The external battery is a Forza branded battery but idk which model exactly. And my first instinct was to connect the PC to a normal power source once it happened, but either way it still wouldn’t turn on.

I’ve tried taking out the CMOS battery from the motherboard for like 5-10 minutes numerous times and connecting it back in and still nothing, if that’s what you’re referring to

my money is on the motherboard being effected when the PSU went south.
or, less likely but possible, the CPU went south as well. (n)

Could try pulling cpu and booting the board without the CPU, but that is different from board to board. Bruce is probably on the head with the board being a problem though.

Not much to lose in my book. ???‍♂️

I agree with Bruce and Pyro. I would consider buying a new motherboard and install the CPU in that board to see if it works to rule out a bad motherboard.
