my cpu is running too hot

i hadn’t used my gaming pc for 6 months i loaded it up at the temp was running at 90-100 C when on idle so I tried msi after burner and intel extreme tuning and i also applied new thermal paste now it is idling around 75 to 80C and when i try to boot up a game it will jump too around 100. Im at lost on what to i have a intel core i5 6600k. Any help would be amazing thank you
